Shield as 2-H weapon?

Can you wield a shield as a 2-handed weapon?  If so, what do you need to do to retain your shield bonus when you attack?

A heavy shield is a one handed weapon. So you could wield it in two hands like any other one-handed weapon, to get the improved power attack and strength bonuses.
