Are there any? I just finished reading the EN Publishing book on chainmail bikinis and I have to say, I was underwhelmed. Apparently, so long as you've got the Exotic Armor Proficiency, a ripped shirt and a chainmail codpiece will give you the same +5 armor bonus as regular chainmail armor. Who wouldn't want that? For a feat I can be as naked as a monk and have the exact same armor bonus with platemail as I do wearing only a bikini made out of plate? Sign me up.

Are there better rules than this? Because those rules are beyond unrealistic.

Those rules are for a specific kind of game where balance or "realism" is second after fun.

Also, unrealistic? Are we talking about D&D?

Yes, we're still talking D&D. By realism, I mean that a chainmail bikini should not have five time the amount of armor compared to padded. Regardless, this is why I'm asking if there's other sources for this kind of outfit. Not something where balance and realism is second after fun.

There are no other rules for this kind of thing. Personally I'm using the Defense Bonus optional rule from SRD. It allows for armorless warriors. Alternatively, Magic Vestment. Cast it on a bikini. Or better yet, make magical bikini (refluffed Bracers of Armor).

Because you're practically naked.

So you want rules for running around practically naked, but having a decent armor bonus from doing so, that "make sense"? I think that's kind of self-contradictory...  Sounds like "having your cake and eating it too". :tongue

No, I never said that. I said that a chainmail bikini shouldn't theoretically have 5 times the AC of padded armor because it's covering less. I was looking for more practical rules. The gloryborn template does work... even if it does actually give you more AC in the end. :huh

D&D: While playing throw "realism" out of the window.

BTW. If Gloryborn armor is magical (but I didn't see that mentioned, but maybe I missed it) then how is it different from Bracers of Armor?
If it isn't magical then how using it is different from using a feat?

Because it costs money and not a feat, which is better. Also, it's from a reliable not 3PP source.

So you don't really care for "realism", just optimization. Gotcha.

Maybe not magical by the rules, but definitely in fluff.

No, I'm just looking for rules that would be accepted by a DM, and not something that'd get me laughed out of the room.

Have you tried asking your GM to refluff normal armor? Sure, you have Gloryborn, but maybe he'll be willing to handwave it.

If it's not in the book, written by a source that he can accept (he won't accept anything by Mongoose because they're always broken) it's not going into the game. No homebrew. There's enough books out there that someone somewhere must have made it by now.

Really, Kevin.  If you invoke "realism" this is what should be happening.

Realistic DM: "OK, you want bikini chainmail.  Wear it into combat.  With steel blades and arrows.  No, no one in right mind wear anything like that in realistic combat.  You don't get to have your character wear those.  At all.  Next."

As soon as you invoke "Bikini Chainmail", you are throwing out any semblance of realism and reason outta window.  Give it up.  It's all about campy-ness at that point.  It's just too silly to trying to have "reasonable" and "bikini chainmail" fit together.

There's nothing to give up. I already got my answer, and I'm going to use it. I'm not looking realism. I was looking for numbers that made more sense than "you're naked you get 0 armor, but if you were this bikini you're as protected as you would be with platemail." Just didn't make sense. And given that it's 3PP, I couldn't just walk up to the DM and go "These are the accepted rules." Well, I could, but that wouldn't have worked. At least with gloryborn I'm good for both fluff and actuality.
