Kitty gives both wizards a certain 'wow, you suck' look. "Seriously? I just cash in the warranty whenever my cellphone breaks." To the suggestion to head back downtown, she nods, helping herself to a(nother) slice of cake. "Might as well... would they all have to be close together? The Fire and Earth were right across the street from each other..."

"I'd think the question is less 'how' and more 'why'.  Why magic based on chinese numerology? Resurrection rites, if they work at all, are big business, are our suicidal guys dupes, enslaved or fanatics?" He frowns, this is going to be good for business to be sure, bad for his health, "Maybe we could try following up on the identity of our would-be suicides? There could be a connection."

"Fanatics. At least, the Fire guy talked like one. Brainwashed people don't sound like that. And I doubt someone who's enthralled could give a rambling eulogy without tripping up along the way... Tapping her chin, Lilly adds, "Maybe if we can pick up who the ritual was intended for we'd have a why right there. Can your Sight pick up that sort of thing on-site? If it's a big ritual, it should leave traces..."

Suddenly, Lilly has a thought and stands up. "Ah! Before we go, do you have a lab here, Mr Ziggy? I want to prepare something... Going to need... alcohol for the base. The stronger the better. Do you have any absinthe?" Packing a palm-sized inkstone and stick out of her bag, she grinds some soot into the provided alcohol to make the base, then alternatively asks for and packs out a laundry list of ingredients for the ink; mainly, to the educated, various kinds of hallucinogenics and parts of large animals - a few hairs from that bear pelt rug, some magic mushrooms, a shark tooth, a piece of a copy of The Scream (which Sigmund is recompensed for, naturally)...

After putting the rather suspicious mix together, Kitty produces two decks of playing cards from her bag - one set of poker cards and one set blank on both sides. Taking one of the blank cards, she applies the makeshift ink to a brush and paints a pictogram of two stylized Chinese characters on it. After leaving the ink to dry for a while, she stores the card in a chest pocket for easy access and begins packing her stuff back away.

With the help of some equipment Ziggy produced from under the counter, a small bottle with a vibrant green liquid, and some other ingredients, Kitty's card was finished with relative ease. Ziggy nodded approvingly. "Fascinating work, Miss Dachner. I think you have an award-winning distraction there."

Phil looks at it doubtfully, "As long as that doesn't blow up in my face or something. It happens depressingly often."

Considering the case, he muses, "Does the news have anything on who our crazies are? Jobs, nationality and stuff."

Kitty grins mischievously at the compliment. "That's what I do." She lightly pats Phil on the shoulder, a gesture that somehow manages to be not comforting at all. "Don't worry. If it does, it probably won't hurt you. Anyway, that's why we're going back downtown. I guess if there's nothing we could try some divinations..."

A flurry of pastry and coffee later, three supernatural beings stood downtown in the heat of the afternoon sun.

By now, the crowd at the funeral had evaporated, and Otto von Habsburg's coffin had been commended to the earth hastily and without ceremony. Very few people were anywhere to be found, and those that did walk by did so hurriedly. The entrance to the subway was barricaded, and occasionally workers wearing yellow vests would enter or leave the underground complex. It wasn't raining any longer, but so morose was the general atmosphere that a heavy drizzle would not have felt out of place in the slightest.

"So," illy begins once they're back on scene, "We should find some kind of news or talk to someone to find out what else happened... Around then, she spotted the workers entering and leaving the subway. "Saaaaay... Was that subway under construction before?"

"Didn't think so." Phil looks over the workers, and shifts to a quieter voice, "Maybe we can pop in for a look or two."

"Great idea! Now you're thinking like Kitty," She links arms with the other two, one on either side of her, and guides them well past the subway, around a corner where noone's looking, before tracing a shape in the air with one of her hands. As she releases a slow breath, grey flames cascade out of her mouth to cling to the trio and cover them entirely in heatless fire.

So hidden under the veil, she raises a finger to her lips with an exaggerated "Sshhhh", then leads her companions back towards the current candidate for Vienna's Most Interesting Subway Station.

The veil of flames seems like a transparent ruse, but none of the workers so much as glances in the trio's direction as they walk into the subway station. The escalator down to the lower level is off, and a few stray workers are seated on it, sharing a thermos of coffee and a quiet chat.

No trains are stopped at the platform down below, and an uncomfortable silence hangs in the air.

Lilly acts quickly, dragging the changeling and wizard along with her out of view of the workers and as far away from the stairs up as the station will go. Then, without dropping the veil, she sort-of lightly elbows Leo - a mildly awkward maneuver in their position that ends up more like a soft shove - and mumbles, "Not a lot interesting down here... but it is suspicious, and right next to the other two places. Can you do something like a location reading with magic?"

Leo looks around at the fairly mundane, if empty, subway station before him. "I could use the Sight to open my Third Eye in order to spot anything supernaturally out of place, but it's pretty... unpleasant. I wouldn't want to risk opening up the deluge if I can avoid it. Simply having access to the Sight, though, might help me sense if something's amiss. Let's see what we can find first."

"This... this is bad. This is very bad. I really don't want to open my Third Eye without Ziggy here to keep me from getting pummeled by what I could See, but I don't see as I have any other choice. If you two could just stand behind me, I'd appreciate it. Being that you're both supernatural, I don't know what you're going to look like with the Sight on, and I'd rather not let it steal the show."

Leo waits for his companions to comply, then closes his eyes as he breathes in and out deeply to focus himself. In.... Out... Wax on... Wax off...

He then opens his eyes... all Three of them.

Phil edges out of Leo's sight, though staying close enough to let Kitty's veil continue to hide him as he scans the scene, surely there must be some reason the workers were in here.

Leo's eyes opened not onto the subway he saw moments before, but onto a rough-hewn tunnel of stone. The tunnel walls flew past as though he were rocketing down the passage, but he didn't seem to be going anywhere at all. Flickers and bursts of electromagnetic radiation, a bizarre purple-green to the third eye, cascaded along the walls.

Further on down the tunnel, just past where the platform used to be, enticing glints and glimmers caught his gaze, vanishing as he looked directly at them only to pop up just outside his focus. However, slumped against the tunnel wall, head lolling back in a vacant gaze at the ceiling, was a figure whose face changed so rapidly Leo could only see the barest glimpse before the next face appeared. Each one was deathly white with darkened veins, and faint unsteady breaths escaped the figure's lips. The faintest hints of cobwebs seemed to be clinging to the strange form, growing slightly thicker and lengthier by the moment. The longer he looked, the more difficult it was to tear himself away, and the faces flashed through random people he saw in the crowd earlier today to the man delivering the eulogy to Ziggy to Kitty to Phil to Leo...
