cheating a prc
« on: August 20, 2012, 06:26:09 PM »
I'm trying to make a new sorcerer and want to use the fiend-blooded Prc does anyone know a fast way to qualify for it?
Also are there any opinions on dropping out before the last level? The benefits are really awesome but I'm not sure if I want to lose a level of spellcasting for it

To get in at the earliest opportunity, you'll probably have to use a feat to gain knowledge (the planes) as a class skill.

Quote
Entry Requirements
Race: Any humanoid race (cannot already be a half-fiend)
Alignment: Any nongood alignment
Skills: Concentration 8 ranks, Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Knowledge (the planes) 8 ranks
Feats: Blood Calls to Blood*, Eschew Materials
Spellcasting: Must be able to cast 2nd-level arcane spells without preparation

It looks like the skills stop you from entering before 6th level.
I think there's a trick you can use to gain 1 extra skill rank early, but I don't know if it works on 3 skills.

You could go Bard - they have all 3 skills as class skills.

Planar Sorcerer sub-levels in Planar Handbook add Knowledge(planes) to skill list.

... but may not be early enough?

Also Blood of Syberys (DR 351)

The Codex Anathema.  Lords of Madness, page 214 can help you qualify.  Combine with two feats to get an extra 1 rank in concentration.  Too expensive and not worth it IMO, but it's the earliest you can get without temporary HD abuse.

I think the problem is that Knowledge(the planes) is not a sorcerer class skill - so by 5th level, he could have 8 ranks in the other 2, but only 4 in knowledge(planes).  He could of course take a level in something that has it as a class skill, but that means he loses a level of spell-casting, unless someone knows of a PRC that'll work -- but there's very few PRCs (if any) that you can take by 5th level.  I think Maat Mons gave the answer in the very first response - take a feat that makes it a class skill.

Nunkuruji gave the answer to this.. the planar sorcerer sub levels.

alright so I've run into another snag as far as optimizing goes. According to the Fiendish sorcery class feature I can take any spell as a spell known that is in illusion enchantment or necromancy or has the fire descriptor.

My question is: What are the best spells I could take both within and outside the sorcerer spell list that are 4 5 6 7 and 8th lvl spells.

Death ward, delay death, and living undeath come to mind.
