Converting 4e adventures back to 3.5
« on: August 29, 2012, 11:24:05 PM »
I'm trying to convert a published 4e adventure to 3.5.  My entire group can't stomach 4e and I'd like to run the module anyway.  It's Seekers of the Ashen Crown for Eberron.

Does anyone have any advice (other than don't do it)?  Are there any conversion guidelines out there?

Thanks,
Ed

Straight conversions are going to be a pain to work, since theres very few equivalencies between editions. How monsters work, how player abilities work are all going to be pretty major factors, while at the same time 4E has somewhat more limited access to high end 3.5 capabilities.

What kind of level is the adventure? Synopsis? Creatures?
Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.
It's a god-eat-god world.

Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves; The vast concerns of an eternal scene.

Basically find the artifact macguffins, put them together into one big artifact and thwart the baddies.

"Thousands of years ago, the Valaes Tairn elves came to Khorvaire. By combining four elven magic items into one, their priests created a potent headpiece with power over ancestral spirits and death."

There are a few creatures that exist in 3.5 like an Imp and Kruthiks but there are some new ones as well.

Deathgaunt Madcaster, Level 6 Controller
Deathgaunt Lasher, Level 5 Soldier
Deathgaunt Spiner, Level 4 Artillery
Deathgaunt Drover, Level 4 Skirmisher
Deathgaunt Hordeling, Level 4 Minion
Dreaddaw Darkliege, Level 4 Controller
Dreaddaw Reaver, Level 4 Skirmisher

After that, it's stuff in the 4e Eberron setting book and NPCs I'll have to remake from scratch.

The premise itself seems workable in general, though not having the actual module and creatures to look at is going to limit the help you can get here. Hmm, quite a bit of work.

I'm not sure what the rules here are on this, but other than the purchased module that I own, I found a PDF of it online.

Would I be allowed to post a download link from my dropbox account, or is that verboten?

Probably constitutes illegal file sharing if done in the open.

WotC has an official 4e conversion of
Elder Evils, the last book published for 3.5e.
https://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4tut/elderevils
I don't remember any other official conversions.

Reverse engineering it = too much work for me.
And then to reverse engineer something else.

Now if only they were smart enough to do that in reverse, then we'd all have at least been tempted to buy 4e. Because, hey, more 3.5 material.
