I see I haven't been clear. Allow me to clarify.
I have "finished" The Spell Book.
That means all the spells that are official WotC 3.0 and 3.5 spells are in there that I am going to put in there. I haven't released my latest version yet because I have to finish spell checking and formatting. After that, I'm moving onto detailed write-ups of every spell, one at a time. Each spell will have an editorial comment, a section of applicable metamagic feats, then a list of magic items that could be made using ONLY that spell.
Note I did not say EVERY magic item.
You see, while a scroll of enervate/energize fireball is possible, it would be a 6th level spell that was just as effective as the 3rd level version. It's a possible fireball magic item, but not a probable one. That's what this is about, to make a list of the possible one spell magic items, but I'm only going to add the ones people would actually make. I'm planning on taking the finished list and adding it to my Crystal Ball random magic items file. The players have complained about the same old magic items showing up all the time, so I'm trying to expand my lists.
So, to clairify, the item in question would have to be something someone would make, something that you could carry away from a treasure hoard, AND only be one spell, so it would only go under one spell entry. Spell storing items in and of themselves are nice to know about, but if the spell in them can be changed, then I don't need it in my random tables. I'm glad people brought them up, it's given me something to think about.
That said, I have reconsidered my position. I suppose that some staffs with single spells would be made, but only for the BEST spells. Since I have been raiting spells on a scale of 1 to 4, any spell that is a 4 (the best spelsl) will have one of those "oddball" magic items made (One spell scepter, One spell staff, Master Alchemist Potion). I'll have to think about it a bit. Need to get back to work.
Understand, this is a formatting issue at this point. I need guidelines that I can write down and say, "Every 1st level spell that is not personal and Arcane gets a: Potion, Scroll, Wand, blah blah..." or "Every 8th level spell that is really cool and everyone would want this spell gets a Scroll, a Staff, and a Master Alchemist Potion" That sort of thing.
