Forging a barbarian
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:16:25 AM »
Hi everyone

I need your awesome knowledge to build a new character. Now with the restrictions and things i would like.
The PC will be a Lv 7 Barbarian.
The manuals we can use are the followings:

Player Handbook
Dungeon Master guide
Monster manual I
Complete arcane
Complete warrior
Complete adventurer
Complete divine

I have 21.000 gp as a starting budget (I really need to know some good magic equipments cause i have no clue :D)
The sum of all ability scores must be 76 with a minimum score of 8 (this is for level 1, not couting the bonus ability at level 4, so 77 total).
I have not yet considered a race, but i was thinking about the half-orc or the human.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help

16, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8
Str 16, Dex 14, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8 (flip Int and Wis if you want).
Improve Strength with your level bumps.

Human

Feats:
H - Power Attack
1 - Imp Bull Rush
3 - (Imp Sunder)
6 - Shock Trooper

Future feats could be Combat Brute (CW) or Leap Attack (C Adv).  Drop Improved Sunder if you don't plan to take Combat Brute.

This is interesting but not exactly what i had in mind. Sure bullrush can be useful but I think i'll enjoy more a barbarian more focused on rip enemies in half :)

Oh i forgot to mention that i'm allowed to pick one trait from http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/3.5e_Traits

I was thinking about http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Weapon_Specialist_(3.5e_Trait)

That's exactly what this does.  Imp Bull Rush is a prereq for Shock Trooper.

Shock Trooper allows you to Power Attack on a charge, and so long as you take a -5 penalty for Power Attack, you can apply some or all of that penalty to your AC for the round, instead of your attack roll.

Add Leap Attack, which increases your power attack ratio...

Leap Attack Charge someone, take -5 penalty to AC, gain +15 to damage (with the two-handed weapon you are wielding).

If only you could use Complete Champion to take the Lion Totem alternate class feature to get Pounce.

Already looked at that handbook but didn't gave me all i needed, mostly cause we have a lot of limitations for what concern manuals.

And you yourself have absolutely no idea about what to do with your character? Nothing?

Ahem.

For damage, go Frenzied Berserker... Cut stuff (both enemies and allies) in two...

eheh this was my first idea, and i like it quite much, still it would be silly to cut my allies in half but i can think a way to work around this with some roleplay.
TBH i looked at that and bear warrior (which i don't really like).
With that trait i was thinking on something very focused on critical and stuff.
Playing around with my background to fit the fact that i only use one weapon.
In my short carreer of D&D player i always played a "face", this will be my first time at something that rip enemies in pieces and is not completely based on roleplay.
(This will occur only if my actual bard is killed, thing that is most likely to happen :D)

Quick! Hide behind the pile of dead bards!
A smile from ear to ear
3.5 is disappointingly flawed.

"H - Power Attack
1 - Imp Bull Rush
3 - (Imp Sunder)
6 - Shock Trooper"

That's correct.  Attack with a 2 handed, reach weapon, like a Guisarme or something.  At level 6, on a charge, always use your full power attack.  Charge ALL THE TIME.  Power attack for full, and take the full penalty to AC rather than to hit, ALL the time for when you charge.  Stack charge bonuses as much as you can!  Use spiked armor for close in.

This is the core of the builds that can (with more sources than you have access to) deal damage in the thousands on a charge.

http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=12842.20

You can't get access to all the craziness, but Shock Trooper and a two handed weapon can at least get your foot in the door.

While you can't go for the full +1 Gloryborn (DMG II) Valorous (UE) Berserker (UE/MIC/RoF) Collision (MIC/SRD) Baatorian Green Steel (FC2) Guisarme, and the other bonuses from everywhere, you might be able to get a +1 Adamantine Collision (SRD) Guisarme, for example.  And you might be able to be a Wolf Totem Barbarian (SRD), for free Improved Trip.

Ask for access to the things in the System Resource Document, which is open and available for free online.
