Take a Stone Giant Cleric 14.  He is CR 15, and has 28 HD.  Does he qualify for epic feats at HD's 21, 24, and 27?

Edit: I know there are special rules for Dragons of a certain age category (Old?) being able to take Epic feats (found in Draconomicon).  Beyond that, the SRD merely states:
Quote
Acquiring Epic Feats

Characters gain epic feats in the following ways:

At 21st level, and every three levels thereafter, the character may select an epic feat in place of a nonepic feat.

Each character class gains bonus epic feats according to the class description. These feats must be selected from the list of bonus epic feats for that class.
According to the rules of racial HD, that stone giant is 28th level, yes?

Yes  he does.....
Of course he must still meet the prerequisites....
For example he can't take Epic Spellcasting at HD 21 since he can't cast 9 level spells yet.....

Edit:Typo...
Type can instead of can't......

Right, there would be many epic feats he could not qualify for, but some he could.  Good to know.

Overwhelming critical and Devastating Critical with a Falchion would be quite deadly...

Extra magic item slot would be useful.
Energy Resistance for frost/fire giants....
Enhance Spell would be interesting, but mostly a waste.

Page 25 of the Epic Level Handbook says it's possible for a creature to take epic feats as soon as its ECL hits 21.

Well yes,but what about creatures witout an la?
For example a planetar has 14 hd but it doesn't have an la....
When should it be able to take its first epic Feat?

I think that the rule that you quoted is there for people who play monsters as characters....

Epic rules are somewhat confusing sometimes.....

There where LAs for many of the core monsters in one of the Dragon magazines.
Magic is for weaklings.

Really?even so there many monsters that don't have an LA so  that means that we are unable to calculate their ECL,thus we can't exactly say when they become ecl 21 and being eligible for epic feats....

I always played that if it has 21 hit dice then it can take epic feats.....

Seems the most reasonable.  LA is supposed to count for nothing, afterall.

It's #293.
That's 3.0 so it should be superseded by any newer books/magazine....
