... was outside the box?

Aristocrat 1 as a McGyver type ... but only if something resembling a Magic Mart is available.

Well, I was at a FLGS the other day and I let my wife pick out a mini for me to paint. She picked out a Halfling, so I'm going to go with a small Lancer. It's actually pretty nice. I decided I'd go with Deep Halfling Fighter 2/Paladin 2/Sorceror 1/Dragon Disciple 10. I like Halfling with Paladin. I like the early save buffs.

Just fill up on True Strikes and Power Attack my way to infinity and beyond. I'm having a hard time with Handle Animal, however. The rules are so retarded.

From what I can tell you can take a 20 before the game starts and begin with 5+skill ranks/bonuses HD of animal. Stupid. At least since I'm training it for riding, I won't be able to teach it to attack. Since I'm going with a small Lancer, I appealed for me to rear an animal (Boar, since they have the best HP) and also got crafting approved since my character wouldn't make sense if he had only 100g to spend and no crafting/rearing. So I crafted all my stuff. Some Studded Leather barding for the Boar, Scale Mail for my Halfling, and other stuff.

Sounds good. At level 2 I'll be doing 3d6+21 damage on a charge. At level 4 I'll have +4 to saves and +6 against Fear. At level 5 I'll have True Strike online. From there I'll get stat boosts and more slots for true strike.

The only thing I hate is that I know my steeds will be a huge target for the DM's. At 6, I'm planning on taking Leadership for a Dire Bat mount.
I appreciate the logical, cool-headed responses and the lack of profanity displayed by our community.

I've always wanted to play a Halfling (or Goblin!) lancer on a medium mount. But a boar? Why not take something that's more at home in a dungeon? Some alternative movement modes would be welcome, too. If this weren't Core, I'd go for the Desmodu Hunting Bat (it's medium size, has kickass AC, Blindsense, and a tripping attack). In Core, I'm uncertain though.

Once you get to level 7+, you should get a druid cohort, and ride them. ;) It will beat pretty much anything else you can get as a mount from leadership, due to the LA rules.

Or hell... pick one up at 6th, and ride their animal companion... And they can be your buff/heal bot. :D

Commoner 20 ... gets Leadership , Magic Mart , and Custom Magic Items

Warrior 20 ... gets Leadership + Magic Mart , not cmi because he's too stupid to know
Aristocrat 20 ... gets Magic Mart + Custom Magic Items , not leadership because you gotta pay, rich sucka
Paladin 10 / Dragon Disciple 10 ... gets Custom Magic Items + Leadership to improve that now sucky Horse

Fighter 20 ... gets Magic Mart , not that he deserves it
Monk 20 ... gets Leadership, trope of so many tv stories
maybe Paladin 20 ... gets Custom Magic items, trading for favors

Yes  :???

Here is the Core Compositions thread. It has some fun core only builds.

One core build I like is Ranger 3/ Ex-Paladin 1/ Blackguard 10/ Horizon Walker 6

I remembered there being a thread like that, but had forgotten where it was or what it was called...

Core Monks:

Tier 1 = Monk 1 / Druid 19 take Natural Spell feat at level 6.
Take the Monk 1 at level 2 or 4.

Tier 2 = Monk 2 / Druid 18 don't take Natural Spell.
Don't read the Druid guide, just wing it.

Tier 3 = lots of builds and action here

Tier 4 = Solo does an awesome "Monk" 20 re-fluff here:
http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=5448.msg78308#msg78308

Tier 5 = Core Monk ... you thought you'd get lost, right?

Boars have the best HP initially. I don't want to start with a flying mount because it would upset everyone, I assume. At level 6 I will take Leadership and start getting my mounts from there. At that level, like I said, I will get a Dire Bat mount.
