Goood or Interesting Combos for Pathfinder/3.5 Mash up
« on: October 08, 2012, 10:17:02 AM »
So, I'm currently playing in a heavy hack and slash Pathfinder+ 3.5  game based upon Diablo III.

I'm playing a Paladin, well 2 levels of paladin going Oracle now and eventually Fist of Raziel for continued Smite and casting progression.

A very nice feat for spontaneous casters in such a mash up is Versatile Spellcaster for obvious reasons.

What other fun, interesting, or powerful combination have been found with integrating the two systems?

Pathfinder has a (Shadow) spell that Clerics have on their list natively, so Clerics can qualify for Shadowcraft Mage without needing to get Shadow spells from a domain. You would need to convert the Illusion domain to PF in order to get Silent Image, though.

Clerics can already qualify by heightening Dark Way (SpC, cleric 2, shadow spell).

TWF with light weapons can be a little more competitive now without bonus damage like sneak attack if you back-port Piranha Strike and allow it to work like 3.5 Power Attack (non-capped penalty and non-capped damage bonus). Still have some accuracy issues but Wraithstrike and/or Shock trooper can help.

I think I might look into what I can do with a hand crossbow.

Deadly Aim (PF),
Crossbow Sniper (3.5)
Hand Crossbow Focus (3.5)
Dead Eye (Dragon Compendium)

Any others that I have missed other than the standard PBS, Precise shot type stuff?

Note: this combo is from someone else on gitp (can't remember who).

Alchemists have the bottled ooze discovery. This is usually pretty weak since oozes don't scale well but since a living spell is an ooze you can use it instead. You can do some pretty cool stuff with living spells (go go living spell spell glyph!  :evillaugh).

Don't forget Targetteer Fighter from Dragon 310.

Sadly that particular juicy bit isn't in our range of usage.  The only Dragon stuff we use is from Compendiums.

OF has a ton of feats to benefit a single spell, most notably Spell Perfection, which lets a single spell benefit from any one metamagic feat (other than heighten) at no cost AND has all mumerical bonuses for it from other feats doubled.  Hello, Shadowcraft Mage!

Imperious Command feat combines well with the various feats PF has to intimidate on every single melee attack.  Most notably Enforcer or Cornugon Smash.  There's also a feat that requires +5d6 sneak attack called Dastardly Finish.  Lets you coup de grace cowering foes...  And 3E has a feat to CDG as a standard action...
It'd be pretty feat intensive, but could be cool to incorporate some or all of that.

Also going back to Imperious Command, PF has a feat to demoralize all foes within 30 ft as your action, Dazzling Display.  It also has a BAB +11 feat, Dreadful Carnage, to get a free demoralize on all foes within 30 ft every time you down a foe.

In Pathfinder, undead inherently use charisma to determine hit points.  Necropolitan sorcerer seems tempting.

In Pathfinder, the undead type also switches special abilities based on constitution to charisma.  That's nice for dragonfire adepts.

Spell Perfection seems to be perfect for a mailman if I am reading this correctly, hello Energy Admixture to have 4 times damage for no increase in spell slot.

I don't think energy admixture would work like that. While this is certainly a grey area, I believe that common sense would dictate:

A) You can't stack an energy admixture with an energy admixture.

And/or

B) I think the metamagics are considered to be different, i.e. energy admixture (fire), energy admixture (sonic), etc. and it's just written that way for simplicity, ease.

It might also get rule lawyer-y when you heighten a silent image to 6th level or higher ("as long as the total modified level of the spell does not use a spell slot above 9th level", Spell Perfection).

If your DM lets it fly, then go for it, but then you could probably also be using shadow miracles out of 6th level slots.
