[3.P] Battle suit
« on: October 26, 2012, 07:56:27 PM »
I saw an awesome picture and now I want to make a character that uses a battle suit. HOW CAN I DO THAT? Any ideas? Here's the picture. It's on Gelbooru and it's slightly NSFW.
Battle suit indicates that it will be used in combat, so it should at least enhance the users Str (but also more Dex or Con would be great) and have some decent weapons, special attacks or abilities.

Hm. That's very close to what I wanted, but it's a shame it's so underwhelming. If there's no better official version, I guess I'm gonna have to homebrew one myself. Unless someone else has a better idea for this concept.

It has no max dex, gives nice bonuses, and its major drawback can debatably be canceled out by being immune to cold.

Wasn't there a thread about playing as a small race and manifesting tha Astral Construct power around yourself? If it's legal that could be interesting and powerfull.

That's DSP stuff I believe.

You could take a look at Garryl's Rise of the Machines homebrew (part of his Metroid As Incarnum thingy).

Now that I've checked it turns out it's both DSP stuff and (maybe) non-third party RAW  :D (it's a little ambiguous though so your dm may rule against it ).  http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=10279.0

Clockwork Armor also has no ASF if you're proficient in the armor.

Quote from: Clockwork Armor paragraph 3
Creatures without [ heavy armor] proficiency may still wear the armor but suffer a -8 Armor Check penalty to all the usual skills and suffer a 90% chance of spell failure. Failure to set the controls properly means that the +4 bonus to Strength still applies, but the armor imposes a -4 penalty to Dexterity instead of a bonus.
That's not terrible at all. It seems like it should be enchantable to boot.

As for cold immunity; the last part of this here suggests that this doesn't prevent the freeze-up, since you can still fail your save vs a cold based attack. Now if one were immune to fire or were a pyrokineticist, then the unfreeze should be easier. Immune to both is nice too. Too bad they redid the cold-subtype spell to be such a low level.
Apathy is ...ah screw it.

I'll throw in my vote for the clockwork armor as well. The downsides are very rare, and if you get it made of an alternate material (like obdurium) or get hardening spells applied to it, it's VERY hard to break.

If you're allowed to take item familiar too then throwing that onto your clockwork armour would allow you to have it become an intelligent magic item.

If it's intelligent not only do you have a "Jarvis" type AI but it can also use it's actions to reload your weaponry or have it ready an action to use a 1-pt of fire damage spell item on yourself if you take cold damage all the time to "solve the icing problem".

Alternatively, the Synthesist Summoner would do just fine.
Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.
It's a god-eat-god world.

Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves; The vast concerns of an eternal scene.

It's not a low level option, but Pathfinder has one thing that -- flavor wise at least (It's likely not as strong as the Syntheist) -- might be handy. Look up 'Construct Armor' on http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/building-and-modifying-constructs If you want to chill out inside a flesh golem or a steel golem? It can be done. Or any construct for that matter, for the most part.

I think the AEGIS from Psionics Expanded: Advanced Psionics Guide should do what you are looking for  :)

Aegis is exactly what he's looking for. Throw in the Soulknife and take a PrC that advances both and he has a battle-suit and mega-sword. Add 2 levels of Totemist and 3-4 levels of Incarnate and he's a Transformer. (At least a Pretender. God, they sucked.) A level of Binder gives you on-board AI. Take a psionic class, grab Astral Projection, and take Skin of the Construct and now you're surrounded by translucent armor over a silver endoskeleton glowing with a projected spirit attached to blue battle-pods while weilding a laser sword.

Polymorph into a lion using Metamorphosis from a psionic class, take a level in cavalier or several in paladin, grab a mount (a lion), use the Share Soulmeld feat to grant it your melds, get Leadership and get the mount class levels in Aegis, have the mount use the carrying capacity Aegis feature such that you can ride inside it, all while taking Summoner and merging with your (quadraped: lion) Eidolon such that you can also ride inside your mount:

You are now Voltron.

Speaking of Leadership, Halfings get a Feat that allows them to share spaces.
Tome of Battle Rangers ring a bell? White Raven Ranger, the Red Tiger Claw Ranger, etc. :D

Also I second something like a +5 Hell-Forged Hardened Obdurium Clockwork Armor has like Hardness 52 & 150HP and I know there is another Hardness increasing spell (or power) that has a 24 hour duration if you really needed more. It's +4 Circumstance bonus is an absolute must. Not to mention that it is as effective as Heavy Plate but not ACP/ASF, or MDB. You can't get better armor than that, and if you do its feasible to call the 3rd party source you get it from OP (because in it's own way, this armor already is).

Restful & Durable from Dungeonscape cost 1,000gp combined and prevents rust while letting you sleep in it. Add another 14k to make it "Of the Deep", granting water breathing, immunity to pressure related damage, and you ignore penalties for underwater fighting. It's like a diving suit, or maybe space armor! In fact, get your self a +5 Splitting Energy Bow and take Exit Wound & Power Attack for a "plasma" weapon. And don't forget to pick up Explosive Starburst Arrows for "missiles". :D

The aforementioned weapons serve as your Rivet gun and Missile Launcher. Just need a drill.

Small Lances can be wielded One-Handed and you can pick up Valorous for a dash attack, in fact a Lance of the Unending Charge doesn't require you to be mounted if you wanted to go bowling. Other than that, Sharktooth Staffs Grapple at a range, Fleshgrinding sadly forces you to let go of the weapon which isn't quite flavor matching.

Edit - Graft Weapon out of Fiend folio attaches any weapon to your body as a Graft.
