So I take a bunch of bones. I cast flesh to stone on them. I take the stones and put them in a metal mold. I cast stone to mud and stir everything up really good and smooth it out into the mold then break enchantment.
The mold could be anything. A door. An axle for a cart. A bunch of interlocking gears. Anything that could be the source of energy for a machine, from a pump to a mill stone's central axis.
I cast animate dead on the resulting new shape of bones.
So, any reason why you can't have doors that open automatically for people? Horse-less carriages? Mill house that doesn't need wind or water? A pump to keep a mine shift free of water letting people mine deeper? Buckets that carry themselves? Tables that follow you around at dinner parties?
I'll paint them festive colors and put flowers on them and crap so people don't freak out.
Since bones are bones, I'll use bones from the local cattle slaughterhouse to avoid local people getting cranky about me digging up their loved ones.
Should all this work or am I missing something?
So how often will these "labor saving devices" malfunction and try to murder someone?
