Factotem Chameleon Build
« on: November 28, 2012, 09:33:34 PM »
Dear boards,

I'm in a new campaign now and all books are open. Everything. I'm looking for a little help in cheesing out my Factotem Chameleon. Most help needed as to what useful spells to use.

Current build
Silverbrow Human Factotem 8 Chameleon 2

Str: 12
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 21
Wis: 16
Cha: 12

Feats:
Font of Inspiration x 4
Leadership
Knowledge Devotion
Exotic Weapon Prof: Gnomish Quickrazor
Flaw: Compulsive Gambler
Flaw: Greedy
Floating Feat (Can be anything 1/day)

*Don't need able learner as all skills are class skills.

I use a quickrazor with Iajutsu Focus in melee combat, and thinking on using Spells/Wands for ranged instances(when I get the funds, see Gold), though they wont get to the damage output of my Quickrazor.

Cunning Surge is allowed to stack in a single round, so i can get multiple standard actions on my turn.

I'm going to be going Chameleon 10, and I'm proposing letting me use an Epic Progression for the chameleon after this to keep gaining spell levels found here. Obviously excluding things that require you to actually be epic, but I'm 99% certain it'll be allowed since everything else is being allowed.

Epic Chameleon copied and pasted here
(click to show/hide)

The campaign will be going to epic levels and going after some deities, so I'm expecting high level competition. I've not had much experience with any of the things I'm working with (first time using factotem, chameleon, and going epic), so looking for advice for when we hit epic.

Gold: right now I have less than WBL in items (a headband of int +2, bag of holding, some minor magic items, nothing too powerful), but making gold is very easy in this campaign and I can easily get more than WBL in short order. What are some useful items to get that would synergize well with this build. Thinking Orange ion stone for CL boost, metamagic rods, and some wands (of what I don't know). Any suggestions?

My main concern right now is spell selection for my Aptitude focus. I'm going to be using Arcane Focus for the most part, and then combining arcane and divine for maximum spell usage.

What are some useful/powerful spells I should get (both arcane and divine)?
Are there any spells that are lower level on certain spell lists, such as the trapsmith spell list (Haste level 1?  :twitch)

Oh, and to add some cheese, and because I know we're going after some divine beings in the future, my cohort from leadership is going to be a Druid/Planar Shepard whose plane of choice is the Concordant Domain of the Outlands, so his bubble can hinder divine powers. Can he choose what part of the plane his bubble is made of? Can I specify that it is within 100 mi of the Central Spire? (for context, Manual of the Planes p.147)

Edit: Didn't have but needed EWP for Quickrazor.

If your Cohort takes a level in Hierophant, he can give away wildshape uses to willing creatures (your PC).  you might even be able to get Natural Spell...

Edit: Does epic chameleon get higher than 6th level spells?

Yes that's my reason for taking it beyond the ordinary 10 levels. Spell progression follows the pattern (So new level of spells for every 2 levels of the class). At level 20 I will have 7th level casting of both Arcane and divine, and 9th level at level 24 (assuming we get that high). Hense why I'm looking for useful spells on all spell lists, and spells with lower levels on certain spell levels.

Heirophant is interesting, especially since I only have 15 levels of the cohort's build set. Thanks for the tip!

Good luck on getting epic progression before 20 is all I can really say since the rules are you can't do it until past 20th level.

Is using the Floating Feat to get extra wizard spells in your spell book via Extra Spell allowed?  One interpretation of it is you can use the feat to get a spell, then copy the spell into your book, then change the feat to be another spell and repeat ad nauseum.

If you can't convince your DM to give you the epic progression, you still might be able to get higher level spells through use of the feat Extra Slot from Complete Arcane, combined with some method of casting spells of a level >6. The Chameleon Handbook on these forums should have at least one variation on this method (IIRC, using Planar Touchstone: Catalogues of Enlightenment), but using something like, say, Earth Spell/Heighten Spell or Sanctum Spell should work as well.

Far more feat intensive, and relies on an interpretation that some DM's may not enjoy, but it's a RAW method that is completely independent from hombrew.
