when i lived in japan, i actually found the japanese version of the phb and dmg and a couple other supplements in a used book sale... to my lasting sorrow, i had not the ability to purchase it at that time. i have never managed to find them since, either.

They'll probably say something like" it's just the artwork that changed.  4th Edition changed the feel of the game."  Or "of course they'd put Japanese stuff in a Japanese translation!"

late 1st ed, if i recall what i could read of the japanese correctly.

and i can read a little, but i'm on a par with an elementary school kid for reading level in japanese.... need more practice with kanji. i have the vocab, just not kanji recognition. native japanese tell me that my spoken japanese is conversationally fluent... for what it's worth. i've even been mistaken for a japanese person, if it's over the phone and the conversation is not too long.

I've been carrying a friend through the first few dozen levels as a Siren (with him as Kreig), phaselocking all the in-between fights (killing an average of 10 enemies per lock) and letting him fight the bosses himself.

...Yeah, we've started to make our own fun.

Cool! I actually pre-ordered Borderlands 2, finished the first playthrough as Zer0, then never touched it again. Was waiting until more DLC's came. I take it the game is more well balanced now?

By which i mean... No more near-impossible drops, like certain skins, and the spawn rate for vermivorous?

All games have an inherent imbalance, and Borderlands is by far no exception.  That's my way of saying "no".  Well, no, they did fix the balance.  In doing so it made new problems.  It's now impossible to solo the raid bosses.  The Bee is now useless, but every other shield is even worse.  I don't really care about some drops being rare, as long as they're worth it....and not so rare as to be impossible for any reasonable amount of effort to get.  But they did fix Vermivorous if memory serves, not that I've ever taken him on.  I haven't tried either, so there's that.  Gaige is still the best character and the only way to solo a raid boss I think, unless the psycho is good enough (just got to level 4 before hockey started, then had to leave because, well, hockey).  Game's still fun though, and isn't that all that matters?  For the record, Zer0 is probably the worst character unless specialized, and what's her name is number 2.  Same exception.

Well, yeah, Zer0 is kind of dumb. There were a couple of glitches like using Trespass to kill that huge flying saucer boss, whathisname? Since he had multiple collision boxes, trespass maxed out made it so that you hit him once with a sniper and boom, it dropped to 1HP (because scripts). Also, full on Bloodshed was all kinds of fun because you could chain deception kills erryday all day long.

I tried Gaige, a bit... Didn't like her. Anarchy is good, i know that, but i can't micromanage reloads well enough to be effective with it. Salvador is too mindless for me. I liked Axel. Maya is a worse siren in every respect compared to Lilith and so i didn't even play her. Other than the Psycho and Gaige there were more character additions? I haven't been keeping up too closely. A lot of RL stuff got in the way soon after i acquired the game and i didn't play it after Pirate DLC came out.

Gaige and Kreig are the only new characters.

With Gaige and Anarchy, you don't need to micromanage reloads.  You just need a gun that has almost no ammo in a clip, a fast reload time, and not die.  So Jakobs shotguns.  And revolvers.  I was able to take out the BUNK3R in a few seconds.  It was awesome.  I then proceeded to walk off the edge, removing all 250 stacks I had.  Yeah.

False on all 3 accounts there. I find the Bee to be very useful with a Hawkeye in UVHM, even more useful with an Unkempt Harold. Let me rephrase: it's impossible to solo raid bosses as a casual gamer.  I have a build that works really well for anything, and I can't do anything to Terramorphous, even with a Bee and an Infinity pistol.  Against mooks I still annihilate, but I'd be doing that anyway without the Bee, the Bee has done about nothing to my ability to kill things or survive in the regular game, and less than nothing on mega-creatures.
