Curing a degenerative genetic disorder completely?  Awesome beyond awesome.  And this isn't treat.  it's cure.  Like, fixing the actual genetic code cure.  Not a future hope with a new treatment, but has actually happened.  The kids they tried it on are now cured.

Hell yes, and I suspect, with that as a starting point, sickle cell and other genetic disorders can be fixed post-facto.

Weird, this didn't show up in recent news around here.

EDIT: Even weirder. The first link has another one pointing to the foxsports site, but the first one says the whole shebang happened in Maranhão, while the second one says it happened in São Paulo. One other minor detail that weirded me out: "Jordão" is a common surname here, but "Jordan" isn't.

EDIT2: Wait, ignore that. São Paulo is just their Associated Press branch location.

3d printing your thoughts...

Got a source for that that I can access?

For some reason I cannot fathom, the BBC won't let the international service be viewed from within the UK, because it's not funded by the license fee. I highly doubt that it's funded by most people using it anyway, so what's the point? @_@

I leave that to the collective imagination of people.

If anyone's seen my pictures, they know my assumed ethnicity is nothing to scoff at.  :p

Let me guess -- the big monster dies? :p

It looks pretty cool ..... I'm guessing it's just a high-budget Creature Feature.

It is affectionately and unapologetic-ally a giant monster film.  If you don't like critters and robots punching each other, it has little to offer you.  On the other hand if you're a fan of Patlabor, Go Nagai, Godzilla/Gamera, or Lovecraft you should be darn happy.  It has several tropes or elements of the above present.

Also stay past the credits.

Ron Perlman rawks as usual!

That's the plan.  Though do note: sickle cell is actually a beneficial mutation.  Kills malaria.  The problem comes from when you have two sickle cell alleles in your code, then you have the full disorder.  I don't think this works to correct that sort of thing, it's more of a "see genetic code segment, replace with this one".  If you assume all sickle cell is bad, then sure, but the mutation did arise for a beneficial reason.  For this, you're looking at diseases like....certain cancer risks, parkinsons, that one that makes you age really fast, various degenerative muscle disorders (maybe MS, not sure), that sort of thing.  Things it will almost certainly not cure: mental genetic disorders (autism, Tourrette's, that sort of thing) complex disorders (sickle cell, autism again), and disorders that drastically change genetic code (like Down's).  Also things that aren't actually genetic like FAS or something.

I've been following retro-viral therapy for a while now, and this stuff is just so exciting to see it work as well as it is.
Okay .... so, would you think that this kind of thing would be more beneficial for men than women; because of how XX has a tendency to fix defective genes, where XY can't?
