for some reason, the whole windows 8 thing reminds me of D&D 4e,

it's such an obviously bad idea, and all we can do is watch them set their ship on fire

EDIT: maybe the next windows will be better, lets look at the trend:
(i'm starting here just b/c its what I know, I've used earlier stuff(95,98) but never had to really work with or fix it, by all means fill in the gaps if you're so inclined)
Windows 2000/NT Good
ME - fail
XP - good(relatively)
Vista - fail
7 - good (i think they just secretly finished vista)
8 - fail

Windows 8 is a good idea for touchscreens/tablets/phones. It's not a desktop OS, that's the issue. I haven't used it so I don't know anything about bugs/non-optimization/etc. for those systems, but the way the whole thing is designed, and the way the move it without any visible change to those platforms, makes me believe that if it is reviewed in the better format (phone, tablet, other touch screen) everyone would have a change of heart about it.

My little brother just got a Surface 2 for his birthday/Christmas, running some version of Windows 8. I'm not impressed.

I'm going to MAGFest in less than a week and then will immediately be going to AGDQ to volunteer.

For those that don't know, MAGFest is a four day music and gaming festival. Non-stop gaming with concerts from bands playing game-based music. There's also gaming panels, tournaments, movies, and merch.

AGDQ, short for Awesome Games Done Quick, is a week-long speed running marathon that takes place once a year to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Gamers from Speed Demos Archive and Speed Runs Live meet up and speed run games live for this event and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to help them out. If you've never heard of AGDQ(or the summer version, SGDQ), you can find videos of the previous years on youtube(here's a playlist for AGDQ 2013).

So, for the first time in a loooooooooong while, I get the chance to tabletop game.

One of the players has a headache. Takes some aspirin, not working.

"Stay still."

I proceed to massage the front-top of her head. Small circles with my thumbs while lightly pressing the sides with my index and middle fingers.

"Feel better?"

"...actually, yeah. How did you do that?"

"Pressure points."

I lied. I have no idea what I was doing or why it would work. I just knew it would, for some reason.

Actually, massaging pressure points does work. Just don't press too hard, or else it becomes very painful.
