I'm waiting for when they figure out how to transfer sensory information between people. But that is majorly cool.

That could get awkward though.  Everyone thinks thoughts they shouldn't share with others.

"OMG I can see what you're thinking!"

"OMG this is so kewl!"

"..."

"OMG you touch yourself at night while thinking of me? Dude wtf dude?"
"Hey! I can make YOU touch yourself now!"

Stop punching yourself.

At least they caught that little guy early (It took them 17 years or so to diagnose me with whatever I have.)

humans have seven basic senses...

We have a minimum of 8 senses and it could actually be upwards of 14, we don't actually know how many senses humans have.  The one that we definitely have that was left out was temporal sense.  The ones that are maybe are debates, things like sense of self (as in, consiousness, not procioception or however it's spelled, the kinesthetic sense) and heat and cold, and other things like that.

ah, quite so, i should have said "at least" seven basic senses, as i quite believe in additional senses myself.

as far as the debates go, the sense of touch is considered to include temperature sensitivity already. this is because touch is nothing but the sense of the electron fields interacting and repulsing between the outer surfaces of two objects. how strongly they interact is interpreted as pressure, heat, cold, and certain kinds of pain.

temporal sense is an illusion as time itself is an illusion. the sense of time is actually nothing more than spatial motion.
if you add up the Rotational and Orbital Velocity of the planet, add the ROV of the solar system, add the galaxy's, add our local cluster's, account for the deflection of all the nearby galaxies causing them all to veer towards the assumed super-gravitational anomaly outside the reach of our telescopes - in short, add up all the velocities and vectors that we are being subjected to on a second to second basis, you get a total velocity that is a wee bit short of the speed of light. The leftover amount we are short of is our perception of time. dilation, in other words.
to put it in simple terms, our sense of time is basically us sticking our heads out of the window of our planet and feeling the passage of the warp and woof of space like wind on the face.

one sense that few list as such is the sense of observation. one we share with individual atoms. or maybe it is because we are made of atoms that we have such a sense... of course, that doesn't explain how an atomic level sense and origin of information is transmitted such that we gain conscious awareness of it.....

proprioception is a fun one. explains why so many pre-teens and teens are clumsy.

consciousness, eh? maybe i should leave that one alone for now, given what i've already said. ^^

Temperature is different from the electron repulsion effect that touching a surface yield.  Temperature is the excitation of molecules, so special nerves are required.  For a good example, certain body parts are more sensitive to touch than they are to temperature.  In addition, there's more temperature controls that are subconscious (such as the core temp) but are still senses.  But like I said, there's a debate as to whether or not it's a separate sense, and the close relationship is a part of that.

And just because time may be an illusion, doesn't mean we don't have that sense.  In fact, that more firmly supports the fact that we have the sense.  An illusion is something that deceives a sense.  So....

Quote
in short, add up all the velocities and vectors that we are being subjected to on a second to second basis, you get a total velocity that is a wee bit short of the speed of light.

This is very false.  Sorry.  But that's not how relativity works....Also, if you add up all the velocities, only the largest orbital one matters.  Us spinning does not matter, us orbiting the sun does not matter, and us orbiting the galactic center barely matters.  So we are traveling well below .1c, meaning there are very few relativistic effects.  Not only that, it's called relativity meaning it is relative to each thing, including the Earth.  So the relativistic effect of me sitting down is 0c.  Yeah.

And finally, sense of observation?  Observation isn't a sense, it's an act.  We observe with our senses.

"Time is an illusion" just sounds like something people say to sound smart. I don't buy it at all. Perhaps it is more of a philosophical question than a scientific one, but at least in science, you can measure rates of chemical reactions, nuclear decays, etc. This is basically objective quantification of time. One of the quotes I most remember from studying thermodynamics is "Entropy is the arrow of time", which is basically a poetic way of summarizing this.

Pretty much.  I should clarify my previous post about that, time is almost certainly not an illusion, but how we think of time is an illusion, because of relativism.  There's a psychological and (infinitesimal) physical relativism at play, and the physical one is not an illusion, there is a flow of time.  However, that flow is not what we observe.  We observe at a pace that is unique to each of us.  And on a slight delay.  That time is an illusion.  But time in the universe is not.  And that perception of time is our sense of time.  It's how we judge when we do things.  And it's why you can go insane from such a simple sensory deprivation as closing you off from the outside world/clocks so you can never tell what time of day it is.

i believe that is basically frame dragging. we are all in the same frame, so our sense of passage is more or less synced.

the problem with trying to only use the largest orbital, is that we don't know what it is, and there is a distinct difference of effect between a spinning frame and a non-spinning frame. so the smaller velocities and vectors do impact and accumulate.

What?  We know roughly how fast we are moving in relation to everything else in the universe.  We know how fast we are moving from the place where the big bang happened, we know how fast things are moving away from us, and we know that it's not that fast, cosmologically speaking.  We know what our largest relevant orbital is, we know roughly what other galaxies and planets and groups are doing even.

RUAM!
A single tooth? Man... and I thought the data on some of my experiments was scant.  :rolleyes How do they know it wasn't just a mutant platypus with giant teeth? Or maybe even just one malformed giant tooth?

I'm going off of my non-scientific know how here, but i believe it's because the root of the teeth go all the way to the bone, so if the teeth cavities are there, along with a teeth, it's a very good indication that the animal had actual teeth.

I actually won an argument against a rabid feminist today (as in she stopped responding).

The feminist in question was female.
