It looks like Neverwinter is better than WoW across the board, ...is there a catch?

It's not a good comparison to WoW.  They really don't have that much in common other than they're both MMOs.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Alrighty, I was just curious because the character modelling reminded me of WoW & a few of my friends got back into playing it again. I personally don't want to touch WoW again, hell my dad still plays it but all he does is Battle Pets, he might as well buy a 3DS & a Pokemon game.

Neverwinter is probably just like Star Trek Online, they're both Perfect World MMOs.

Star Trek Online has horrible end game content so we'll see if Neverwinter is any good.

The next MMO that might be worth playing is either Everquest Next or Blizzard's Project Titan (yeah, you remember that, don't you?), depending totally on what kind of timeframe Project Titan is on, now.  I believe the mechanics were completely scrapped about a year ago.

Anyway, this seems kinda awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX9AvqSc0hs

I went to a show featuring Ricardo Cruz.

Who's that? Oh, nobody...

...EXCEPT FOR THE ONLY MOTHERFUCKING FOREIGN MEMBER OF JAM PROJECT.

I sang so hard I tasted blood.

Couldn't be happier.

I just got done with my final monologue for my theatre class.

I nailed it perfectly.

Hooray.

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."

DnD stuff but it's not worth its own thread by itself: danzibr's Totemist Handbook is 95% done! This is THE most extensive, detailed, and current handbook for Totemists out there right now. A massive amount of work went into it and it deserves to be known about.

lacking non-windows os support = worthless crap waste of time so far as i'm concerned.

Given that the vast majority of games lack non-windows support, I don't think that the game companies are super concerned about that.  :P

I'm desperately hoping that Steam OS will change that.

AMD and Nvidia are also coming out with their own graphics software to help developers move away from DirectX (and thus Windows) entirely if they so choose.  I couldn't agree more with that decision since Windows 8 is a major PITA when it comes to games, and MS isn't going to let up on forcing it on people.  Thankfully Windows 7 is still offered.

I'm also hoping we can get away from Steam.  Yes, it can be quite nice to keep things up to date and all, but they don't have a return policy at all and aren't as consumer-friendly as they'd like people to believe.

It comes down to the fact that Windows 8 doesn't want to be a proper desktop operating system.  I tried to get it to read a DVD today, specifically a TES: Oblivion installation disc, and it just utterly failed at the task.  This game isn't even 8 years old and Windows just refuses to do anything with the installation media.

Don't get me started with how bad it is at dealing with WiFi, either.  You'd think that something trying to be an OS for mobile devices would be better at that kinda thing, but it's terrible.

Windows 8 is so full of fail, failure isn't even enough of a word to describe the amount of badness that's involved in that utter monstrosity. I don't get it. Why doesn't Microsoft just sticks with a formula that they know WORKS? They have the vast majority of the world basically addicted to their software by now, and have a near monopoly on software. Linux doesn't look like it presents anywhere near an immediate threat, and mac's are just too damn expensive to really get into their market share.

If they made Windows 8 into Windows 7+, with the same core wrapped around a different outer shell and actually optimized the OS to work better, wouldn't they be much better off? It just seems to me Windows 8 was made based on all sorts of wrong assumptions and bad ideas. Seriously. Also, at some point down the road, it would be just a smart move on Microsoft to focus on optimizing the hell out of the OS and forget about compatibility with the really older versions.

They've already pretty much forgotten about compatibility, even though I don't think they've done optimizations.  They're just doing different bad things with their OS.

Seriously, Win98 compatibility mode is just a joke these days.  I've never seen it work with anything in a Windows 8 machine, even though I've managed to get it working most of the time back in the days of XP when backwards compatibility started becoming an issue.

I hope that NVidia doesn't just make a Linux-compatible library for their graphics cards, I hope they also port over their GeForce Experience software.  There's some really nice features to it like seeing "optimal" settings for your games, telling you automatically when your drivers are out of date, giving you detailed information about your system, and especially ShadowPlay (if you've ever recorded gameplay, you'll see what I mean when you compare ShadowPlay to OBS).

the microsoft development cycle takes about 7-10 years to come up with a proper os. in the inbetween years they rush out a new os to fill in the gap and keep the cash flow going. traditionally that off os is full of bugs and is horrible. basically, every other os is fairly well rounded, the in-between ones are junk. if you think back over the years, you can see the parity: 7 vs 8, xp vs vista, 98 vs me, and so on.

Anyway, SteamOS is out.  NVidia GPU's only, for now, but still...
