Søffå looks around the group with an expression of muted satisfaction.  "Alright, it appears we are set.  Susteen, lead on."

"Right." Susteen leads the group off to the stocks.

Off to one end of the market square stands several wooden stocks. A lone hobgoblin is shackled there. His wounds from last night’s battle have been bandaged, but a number of rotten tomatoes on the ground near him and on the surface of the stocks indicate that his treatment hasn’t been completely kind.

He takes one weary look at you and says, “I ain’t saying nothin’ unless you people let me go.”

Two of the town's guard stand nearby watching over the prisoner.

Everyn approaches the stock containing the prisoner. Noting he bares the sample heraldry as the rest of the attackers he says, "I notice the symbol on your tunic. It bares many similarities to the Red Fist of Doom army from the past. Only, you seem to be displaying it upsidedown. Has Azer Khul somehow returned from the grave?"

Pulling out his lock picks and flaunting them infront of the prisoner and wispering in his ear I could maybe arrange your escape not now of course but maybe under the cover of night

"Weak, eh?"  Søffå approaches the creature; he begins to walk behind the stocks, out of view.  "As I recall, you were defeated before at the hands of elves and men such as us, rather soundly, I might add.  Then as is now, if you choose to start war, there can be only one outcome."

Søffå rounds back to within eyesight of the captive foe.  His open hand gently moves toward the creature's face, when suddenly a blade appears in it, now pressed tightly to the hobgoblin's throat.  Søffå bends down to look the creature directly in its eyes, and speaks calmly:

"Your fate is inevitable.  Despite your words, the fear in your gaze belies that you know this to be true.  Sinruth is your leader, you say, but he has no merit beyond the others that have risen, and fallen, before him - What makes you think he can save you from certain doom?"

Tilting his head in the stocks to eye Atanos, "Yer not gonna. You more likely pick yer nose wit dose. Ardly looks like you can open these locks." the hobgoblin answers.

Twisting the other way, he scoffs when Soff'a suggests they can be beaten again, but he is extremely worried at a swift end when the sword is put to his neck.

The halfling, having stayed quiet to master his explosive fury upon seeing the prisoner, decide to step up to the goblinoid. Not really wanting to intimidate the captive as much as just point out the situation to him calmly, he puts on a very matter-of-fact voice.

"The thing is, my good man, is that this is very simple. No one will let you go before you tell them what you know. Eventually, one of two things will happen. Someone thinks you're too much of a bother and you'll die. Or someone who isn't in charge will manage to get up to you and kill you. Or perhaps you'll just be left here to rot, or a handful of other variants of your demise, be it slow or quick. Regardless, sir, I think you can see the outcome of these situations. Your prospects are less than optimal, if you decide to say nothing at all. Especially once people less kind than us decide to start carving the answer out of you."

Thespias takes a poignant pause for a few seconds, before continuing.

"But that is one thing. The other is that you tell the people here, as well as anyone else that is interested, as much as you are capable of revealing. Then there might be a chance for you to survive all this. Last time you all tried this, it failed. This time won't be different. It's your choice, really."

"I might 'ave some stuff ta say an I might not, I want ta be freed first." the hobgoblin states.

The guards overhear and move closer with one saying "You won't be going anywhere until you answer for your crimes Hobgoblin."

Dunor stepped up to the hobgoblin, standing tall over the stocks. The northerner's face was still painted with dark ash, and his features were shadowed in an eerie fashion as his blue eyes stared out of the void of his face.

"If you wish to see the light of another day, you will cooperate with us. If you care not for your own life, then feel free to die here. I will hunt down your clan, your family, and I will take the answers we seek from their blood. You can not know the lengths to which I will go to see this done should you choose silence this day."

The hobgoblin answers the Dalanath's veiled lie, "You aint got the guts, sides them guards aint gonna let you cut me." and eyeing Dunor he says with a sneer, "You think I give a damn bout the rest of those sad sacks of dung. Spill as much of their blood as you want, I want out of here. I'll even draw you a map to the stronghold."

"I could pass along word of any assistance to my superiors right." Susteen says, "a map may be of use to you. It may not free the slime but it may help with any sentencing...right."

Quit wasteing your breath on this shite.  They had ogres, wagons, and enough manpower to lay waste to this city.  It shouldn't be to hard to follow the trail back.  We offered you a civil opportunity out. Enjoy your hanging

Søffå contemplates for a second, then mutters:  "Well, Atanos, what you say is true enough.  Still, a map may prove useful.  I would not give any preferential treatment to this beast, though - At least, not until our return, and..." Søffå pauses to gaze at the goblin, making sure he has its full attention, "...only if the map proves its value."

"Susteen, might you find some parchment and a quill, and maybe a board for backing?  Unless you would rather loose the creature's claws for the task?"

"Right!" Susteen rushes off to find the materials requested. When he returns, he is accompanied by a couple more guards. "I consulted with Councilman Troyas right.. and he agrees that should the hobgoblin's map assists you it then it will go some ways with the brutes sentence.

The extra guards train crossbows on the hobgoblin as the other two manacle the hobgoblin and release him from the stock. Armed with a bit of charcoal and rough parchment, the goblinoid draws a crude map with a few noticeable landmarks to look for. It's not the work of a master cartographer by any means but it gives you your heading.

As soon as it's over the beast is placed back in the stocks, much to the relief of the gathered crowd of onlookers. As you set back off through town to gather some last minutes supplies you see a few from the crowd launch a couple more rotten vegetables at the hobgoblin with fairly keen accuracy.

Provisions are hard to come by in the current state of the town. Those shops that are open are are sparsely stocked. Apparently those items not requisitioned by the council to help the town, have been scooped up by the scared populace. That leaves the overpriced merchants that came to town recently, so many of the items you seek cost a bit more that you expected.

One jewel in the madness is Marsh Laval. The fat halfling finds and waddles up flanked by the two serving girls you rescued last night. "My dear boys, you simply cannot leave without a token of my gratitude. I managed to locate some foodstuffs that the merchants from out of town had in spare and put together something to keep your bellies full as you pursue those nasties. he says  with a sly grin.

The dark haired lass approaches Soff'a and hands him a package of food and skin full of liquid. She shyly says, "I owe you my life and more." she manages to glance up into his eyes,  "I know full well what my fate would have been at the hands of those monsters. I hope you return safely." and with that she quickly stands up on her tip toes and pulling Soff'a down a bit kisses him on the cheek. Then rushes off with the other serving girl giggling, who up to that point had appeared to be sizing up the powerful looking Dunor.

After unloading the rest of the foodstuffs on you, Marsh bids you farwell on you journey, "Good luck to you, and bring those poor fellows taken home."

Once you're all provisioned you set out the broken gate, and once past the orchards and farms......into the wilds.

Søffå stammers out a quick "Thank you", his face flushed red.  He speaks aloud to no one in particular "...Er, I need to go get some supplies...", as he turns to hurry away, tripping over his feet in the process.
