I'm going with Wizard 20 + phaedrusxy's basic battle strategy, I think that should be sufficient.

Thanks everyone,
Necro

Be sure to brush up on all relevant rules beforehand, and make sure he's not pulling any shenanigans. Pelor knows he'll need them to even have a chance.

Does he have True Seeing? If not you can make him waste a trap-arrow or two.

I won't fully know what he'll have till show time. I realize I could recon via divination spells but I gonna go without that.

Now that the boards are back up, could you post the results of the duel?  I want to know how badly you curb-stomped his fighter....
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

We ran it through three times till he finally quit. Each time I trounced him easily. When the gold dragons where about to attack he gave up!

What strategies did you use? It's always nice to have examples like this to refer to whenever someone's stupid enough to try and start a wizard vs. fighter argument

I'm interested to know what he was using, also. Were there any significant rules arguements and how were they resolved?

1st Combat
I lost initiative somehow, I suspect he was cheating. Even though I was invisible and there was no way he could know where I was he charged straight at me because he could meta-see my figure on the battle map. He used mordenkainen's disjunction from some intelligent magic sword he "created fairly and by the rules." I lost all my buffs but then it was my turn.

I moved 5 feet, casted time stop for 7 rounds of action. I gated in 4 gold dragons and sunk into the ground ethereal.

He quit.

2nd & 3rd Combat
I won initiative both times by an incredibly huge margin.

He quit.

Should've either started with (greater) celerity, or had Abrupt Jaunt ready

Celerity is in PHB2, and not allowed by the rules.  Which was Core + Completes only.
Abrupt Jaunt is a variant from Unearthed Arcana and suffers the same problem.

What's I'm still confused about is from the beginning of this thread I was under the impression he had some kind of super awesome archer build he was going to throw at you?

Maybe archery was his plan for round 2.

The combat never got to round 2 without 4 dragons and etherial wizard melded into the earth.

He wouldn't be able to use an immediate action though, since he was flat-footed (due to still not have taken his turn).
Or does these duels work differently?

Foresight makes you immune to being flat-footed.
Abilities still weren't allowed in the duel

I would have gated Solars...to be the real "Angel Summoner"
Hmm.

I think he may have revised that after I laughed at and called his "I'll be placing 10,000 magical traps on each arrow head" scheme egregious. I never pressed the issue afterwards as he is an emotionally sensitive & competitive guy.
