Cheapest Means of Flight/Levitation
« on: February 09, 2013, 06:30:13 PM »
I'm finishing off a character to go into the Tomb of Horrors. My build is as follows:

(click to show/hide)

Is there a super low-level wand that can be made? I'm assuming I want to stay off the floors and ceilings and walls.

Banned:
ToB/MoI/Psi/ToM/etc
Online
Dragon Mags
Campaign Stuff other than Faerun

Looking at this thread, you can get levitate as a 1st-level spell, spider climb as a 1st-level spell, and air walk as a 2nd-level spell.

Perfect! Kudos to you!

Any other general ToH advice out there without spoiling too much? I've never heard details about it, but someone mentioned that I might be leery of walking on walls or ceilings.

The incarnate has one, according to the old handbook:
Quote
Airstep Sandals: Lowest level Flight ability there is, and the best one that can be obtained with a feat. The chakra bind is in a bit of limbo; if the DM says it is constant flight, go ahead and bind it. If he rules it acts like the unbound one, you have little reason to do so. The mobility it provides is damn powerful at the low levels.

100 GP to become a Dragonborn of Bahamut, presuming you're not evil and don't mind losing your racial goodies.

The 1st level wands are enough. But any other general advice about ToH would be much appreciated.

Search everything. Take 20 if allowed. Distrust your party members. Never sleep. Don't touch anything. Be invisible.
Normally, I would be reading this, open the reply box, decide what I had to say didn't need said, and close out. But this is just too ridiculous.

Don't be ethereal.  Roll a log down every hallway before you enter.  Try to get an expendable scouter with earthglide or similar - Summon Elemental reserve feat or Wood Wose work well.  Get True Seeing if at all possible.  Be immune to everything - poisons, negative levels, death effects, and mind affecting especially.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Don't follow any of the advice above me! Half the fun of the dungeon is dying in ultra-ridiculous ways!

(Disclaimer: Amechra may or may not be sustained by the tears of those who lose 3 consecutive characters in the same fucking section of dungeon. His advice is also partially contingent on remembering the 1e dungeon more than the 3e one...)

ToH in t-minus two days. What's the best way to boost my saves with 5,500g?

4k will get you a +2 resistance cloak or vest.  That's the quickest one I know of off the top of my head.

If you can stomach a -1 penalty to con, a gal-ralan (Fiend Folio, p151) gives the biggest bonus for the money.  The 5,600 gp version provides a +3 resistance bonus on saving throws that increases to +5 against death effects, energy drain, and anything that effects your soul.

That item seems really good for undead characters or characters otherwise immune to CON damage. Additionally, the item says the damage can't be healed, not that it can't be prevented, so even temporary immunity works. ^.^

I made my CON an odd number, so I'm using that and a lesser crystal of lifekeeping, death ward armor, two traits that boost fort saves, and I took luck of heroes for my free regional feat. That's +11 vs Death Effects and negate one once per day.
