Too dumb to live
« on: February 11, 2013, 03:05:04 AM »
Is there a way to give a 7th level pc the Mindless ability, or something similar to Mind Blank?

Undead are immune to mind-affecting effects, so necropolitan could work.  The deformity (madness) feat (Elder Evils) also gives immunity to mind-affecting effects, though it costs you two feats and a -4 penalty to wisdom.

I'm looking to make a superhero whose schtick is he's so dumb his cohort sidekick is the brains of the outfit.  He just pounds stuff.  A literal brick.  Virtually unreachable even via mental powers.

Lol I was going to suggest keeping the hairy spider, but then use polymorph. But that only gets you up to Diminutive :P

Symbiotic hairy spider + something else?

The spider could look like a mask or chest piece

There is always using Third Eye Conceal on someone with 3 Int.

For example, start with 8 Int.
-4 Feral
-2 Mineral Warrior

Symbiotic template sounds like it's made for this.
But with a minor re-fluff.

Toxoplasma gondii ... would be a RL kitty in charge.
Toxoplasma Ghandi ... VoP fits too.  Too dumb to remember the gear = problem solved.

So basically the original incarnation of Stars and Stripes?  The main guy was a brick and the one who looked like the boy sidekick was the brains.

(hazy) Isn't there a rule that if your Intelligence
is less than 3, it gets bumped back up to 3 ??

So stack the snot out of Int reducer templates.

Mineral Warrior, Wild (Dragon 306 racial "template"), Feral...  Those are a few off the top of my head.

Anyone know which templates reduce int?

You don't need templates to achieve maximum idiocy.

Bakemono (Oriental Adventures, p146) were given LA +0 in the 3.5 update (Dragon 318, p44).  The update also changes the entry from humanoid 1 to warrior 1.  They seem to have applied an ability array, but they don't note what the abilities were before racial adjustments.

You could assume the old adjustments still apply: +4 str, +2 con, -8 int, -4 cha.  In that case the original ability scores were str 11, dex 11, con 12, int 10, wis 9, cha 8.  That doesn't quite match the non-elite array; one of those 11s should be a 13.

Alternately, you could assume they applied the non-elite array in the same way as all the other warrior 1s in monster manuals: str 13, dex 11, con 12, int 10, wis 9, cha 8.  In that case, the new ability adjustments are +2 str, +2 con, -8 int, -4 cha.

In either case, you get +6 natural armor, a 30-foot land speed, and small size.

(hazy) Isn't there a rule that if your Intelligence
is less than 3, it gets bumped back up to 3 ??

There's some stuff on pages 172 and 173 of the Dungeon Master's Guide that gives player characters higher ability scores than normal when combining low rolls and racial penalties.  It's especially pronounced for intelligence.

I made an animal (int = 2) character that I haven't posted yet. Just polymorph into a person if you want.
