Complete Book of Elves writer to apologize for his work on video

Last, but most certainly not least: Upon reaching $2.5m, we will send out a special video from Colin. Those of you familiar with Colin’s very early work may recall that he wrote the Complete Book of Elves for 2nd Edition AD&D. You AD&D players may remember how dreadful this work was, making elves so incredibly powerful and unbalanced that all of our AD&D games were henceforth ruined until 3rd Edition D&D came to save us. (This is a slight overstatement. We could just pretend the book never existed, after all. That’s what I did…) Fortunately, Colin wrote that over 20 years ago and he’s learned much since then. =) Plus he’s the creative guy on Torment and Adam and I aren’t going to let him get too close to the gameplay systems. Just kidding. (Mostly.  )

But we’ve always felt that he owes us for polluting our campaigns with his bizarre passion for elves. Thankfully, Colin seems to have gotten through his elf-fetish years but his penance isn’t yet complete. He has apologized before, but somehow I find it lacking. I don't know about you, but I want to see him say it. So as part of our update celebrating this Stretch Goal, Colin will apologize publicly for this sin of his youth through a special video.

That's one of the reasons I thought it was funny, The Complete Book of Elves had nothing in it that was more glaringly unbalanced than anything I found in another book.

Elves are the worst ...  -ing Elves.
But the elves aren't his fault , if anything they Charmed him.

Ha! Frank did an Old School Sourcebook Review on that book* less than a month ago! These things have gotten popular in the last two months.


*This involves getting drunk (typically) and posting a review of a book that's at least 10 years old.

I'd rather get an apology from every single person who still hates on elves to this day because they got all butt hurt a few decades ago about some stupid splat book and act like in 3E elves are still overpowered when in fact they're probably the worst core race in the game that doesn't have split heritage.

I like elves.  I came to D&D 3E (no experience w/ 2E save for a single one-shot game) from Warhammer and 40k, loving the Native American-like Wood Elves and emphasizing with them.  Only to have to force myself to deal with -2 Con and worthless racial features to play the race I liked all the while dealing with assholes left and right on the internet and in real life screaming invectives against the elves and bragging about how in their games, the entire race is wiped out by genocide or are reduced to mindless savages that fight like lemmings, and so forth.  Complaining about the racism and superiority of elves while loving on dwarves, who are just as bad with that (they get HATRED as a racial feature!  they look on all other races as wimpier than them!  how the fuck is that any different?!)

When are those assholes going to apologize?

EDIT: That apology video was hilarious!  I've never even looked upon the contents of this most-hated book, but I could FEEL the nerdrage pouring forth from those expecting an actual apology!  Made my day!

I think you're mistaking the source of most hatred toward elves, especially considering the amount of people who have never heard of the Complete Book of Elves.
