That is, a Cleric, Druid, or Wizard with spontaneous divination would never be able to qualify for the feat?
While I have different reasons for arriving at the same conclusion, the FAQ agrees in the end result. No, they cannot. And that's pretty much that.

Also, is your problem here about poor interpretation of the feat rather than the overpowered nature of the feat? That is, you'd accept a Wizard 1/Druid 7/Hathran 1 being able to pull off an equivalent trick while in Rashemen?
I've never looked into the Rashemen trick nor have I ever said anything on it. So how exactly did you arrive at that conclusion?

And for the record, if you misread anything it becomes more powerful. Often to the point of stupid, like for example saying Genesis lets you create a ten quintillion to one time trait. I can't and won't say balance is found when correct reading the rules, but there is a remarkable difference between something powerful and something wrong.

Which is wrong because they are spontaneous casters. Because, you know, they can cast spontaneously. Funny how that works, eh?

Well, it seems he's half way there. Better than nothing, I suppose.

Speaking as a DM, I would allow this combination to work. The whole point of the feat is that it allows a spellcaster to be versatile, is it not? What I would not allow is a character using this feat to cast a 2nd level cleric spell by sacrificing two 1st level sorcerer slots, unless that character also had a feat or some other mechanical item indicating they knew how change the nature of their spells, like Southern Magician, Alternate Source Spell or the theurgic feats in Dragon 325.

I'm not sure if this helps you, but it is my thoughts on the matter.

Well, there is also the rule that specific trumps general.  A good cleric with Versatile Spellcaster could sacrifice any two 1st level spells to spontaneously cast Cure Moderate Wounds and nothing else, because the specifics of what he is allowed to cast spontaneously trumps the generalization of the feat.  Same kind of procedure for wizards that have limited spontaneous access.  The specifics of what they can spontaneously cast trump the general of the feat.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.
