As far as my understanding, you won't be affected if you already have insurance at all.  If you don't have insurance, you will pay a tax of up to 1% of your income or purchase insurance and not pay the tax.  The tax will be used as extra revenue and the justification is the payment of emergency room visits by those who are uninsured.  Currently, there's nothing paying for those other than, well, other taxes and higher premiums on other people who have insurance.  With the tax (and suggested insurance) it will drive down premiums because the insurance providers won't have to spend as much on unpaid emergency room visits, and the gov't won't have to spend as much to cover those costs.  Another benefit that they hope it will have is that people will go to the doctor, rather than the emergency room, for simple sicknesses, thus alleviating those trips and providing for a healthier population overall.  I can definitely see this happening.

Okay, and where is it specified what "bronze level" coverage is?

(And this is not just a 'let me google that for you' situation. I'm looking, and not finding.)

I didn't look that up, but I did look into how much of the premium costs are subsidized, and it is substantial (about 4/5ths is "paid" by the government at 200% of the poverty level). I do wonder why the premium costs seem so high relative to the average for those who currently have insurance, though.

bronze should be the least level of coverage, just covering the mandatory items.

theoretically this should cost next to nothing.

http://finder.healthcare.gov/ says that filling in a rough version of my families info (3 people, 1 kid, 1 tobacco user, our ages and zip code) and selecting the highest numbers (deductibles and such) that the least monthly rate is just over $200/month.

these numbers are most likely imaginary, ~50% get surcharges and some are denied coverage.

on top of that this is all before the 2016 changes and none of the volume price reductions should be figured in. (unless there will either be no volume price reductions or they are figured in and i dont know it)

im in that previous posts 2.5% penalty income range. so i could pay 2k in penalties or $2500 for one of the finder plans if didnt have work insurance and were not denied coverage and adding what ever surcharge maybe. ergo, its better for me (if i didnt have insurance) to pay the penalty.

I thought they specifically couldn't deny anyone coverage anymore?

i think they cant deny you for preexisting conditions. you could still be denied for lifestyle issues i think.

I've got a pre-existing condition, an amputated right leg, for which I wear a prosthetic. I don't currently have coverage for it, but that they might require it to be covered under the new standards. Every 2-5 years, at this point, depending on when it breaks, with an average cost of somewhere between 2-5k, IIRC. I'm walking on a 4th-year leg right now.

Texas has enough petitions for White House attention.  The secession thing.  Wow.
Let em go, and say "good riddance".  :P

Aww, it's like you don't love me anymore.   :(
Hey, it's not you, it's me. If it's anyone, it's definitely me.  ;) I just don't want to hold anyone back, if they don't want to be here. If you love something, you set it free, right? Not keep it in a cage?  :p

Edit: We should also put in the agreement that any right-wing nut jobs who want to immigrate to Texas from the US be allowed to do so freely. This could go a long way towards improving the US as a country.  :lmao

Except I don't want to leave my home.   :shakefist

No  :) no , you can stay in the US.
The whole thing'll be gerrymandered in the craziest way.

I think it's safe to say I'll continue to do that until I die (and perhaps even a little after due to muscle relaxation).  Although I don't really think it's relevant for them to know that I have a BM every day or so.

At the rate they're going it'd soon be a Single Party System.

I predict a splinter group of moderate Ds who will side with the Rs on some issues enough to make a majority, effectively becoming the most powerful men and women in Congress as they must be appeased to pass major legislation.
Hmm.
