Romney's getting quite a bounce out of the 1st debate.
Personally I doubt it's because of the issues, more
that Obama looked bad compared to Romney.

The media loves the horse-race part of this,
cause at least it gives them something to do.

What does he mean by encourage marriage?
Tax breaks. Am I the only one with an IQ over 90 here?
The reason people should be getting married is... tax breaks?

So the fact that you're wrong about how he's encouraging marriage is.......what now?

I mean, that story's old news too, that's what, a full month old by now?

Dude, none of us mind when someone points out inconsistencies, incorrect statements, and fallacies.  We do mind when people come in and say that a thread they have not posted in for at least a long time should die.  Especially when the person adds nothing to the discussion.

I understand the difference between reason and incentive. The point of an incentive is to push people in a certain direction, which would mean it was one of the reasons they got married. It seems incredibly shallow.

Now, if you want me to stop putting words in your mouth, you're going to have to offer more than two up at a time when making your points.

I especially loved the incorrectly titled youtube video where the first line was about the media.

This thread needs to die. I'd only be marginally sad if this subforum went away just to stop the shear stupidity in this one thread. Not that I head over that often.
You're not coming here to contribute so much as to point out how much smarter than everyone else you think you are. Your contributions have been in the form of snippy, two word answers, followed by talking about how dumb everyone else is.

It's still kinda amazing and confusing to me
what people hear / feel at the exact same event.

Biden + Ryan aren't really supposed to deliver all
that much to the campaign.  The after debate
insta-polls have it around 48/44 for Biden.
This doesn't mean all that much, just party line.
otoh - a set of Undecideds felt the debate
went more like 50/30 with 20 still Undecided.

What were they hearing that party hacks weren't ??
PA still goes Biden.  Wisconsin still likes Ryan.
Colorado + Virginia are right on the 50/50 fence.

after the vp debate i see all sorta commentary

the liberals i know / read online, loved bidens performance and liked the moderator

the conservatives went straight to calling biden rude / aggressive / an ass / condescending. and they complained about the moderator.

i think biden was rude and condescending. its what i would call 'the A game'. now, hopefully tuesday we get another A game performance.

Nixon was most or all of those things too, but a lot of Republicans call him their favorite president. I actually like Biden best out of the four since he's the only one with a real personality. Won't affect my vote really since he's just going VP not PotUS, but it makes the VP debates more fun to watch nonetheless.
Hmm.

SInce he's going insane in his old age I've always thought it would be nice to see the Iron Sheik moderate one of these things.  It's guaranteed he'd go into a psychotic rant.

SNL has had The Rock play a big wrestler-y Obama, a few times.
He gets the shtick and the intentional over acting.

idk who looks the most like Romney ... it's just a matter of getting close enough.
POW BAM

I'd watch it.

I'm coming to this thread late... But I liked how Jon Stewart showed this last week, that Romney and Ryan have basically no idea how they're going to fix the economy. At least Obama has been forward with the basics of his plan and they make sense.

I didn't know anyone liked Nixon. Do you mean Reagan (I have no idea if he came off as rude or condescending. I was one and five during his two election campaigns.)?

No he prolly means Nixon.  There's a lot of local Republicans who insist he did nothing wrong and was demonized by the left the same as McCarthy.  Willful blindness.

And there's just as many Republicans who insist he wasn't that conservative because he created the EPA and OSHA, opened negotiations with China, fixed prices on food, etc.

They insist that he was liberal.

Of course, even folks like Reagan would be liberal by modern-day conservative standards due to the GOP's move to the Far Right.

... Jon Stewart ...

Letterman:
Obama is taking 2 days off ... 3 if you count the last debate.

I'm seeing close out TV adds for candidates already.
It's like 2 weeks earlier than last year.
Repubs talk about a laundry list of bad Dems, but 3 topics per add / multiple adds.
Dems hammer the House Medicare vote.

My state is staying solidly above 8% between 1st and 2nd place.
I think the only (viable) 3rd party to make the ballot was
former Repub Gov Gary Johnson with the Libertarians.
I'm considering him , maybe ...  :plot

Can someone give me a quick 1 paragraph read about the differences between Romney and Obama? What with living outside the US all i get is biased media information, and it's always leaning towards Obama.

Obama wants more regulation on big business, increased tax rates on millionaires, favors LGBT rights, will use the federal government to help maintain and create jobs, hawkish foreign policy (drone strikes in Pakistan).

Romney wants tax breaks for millionaires (and raise taxes on the middle class), wishes to slash government programs for welfare, social security, and healthcare, is against abortion and LGBT rights, wants less government regulation in big business, ultra-hawkish foreign policy (will refuse to leave Afghanistan until every last terrorist is imprisoned or dead).

They sound both bad. Actually, i think that's a side effect of trying to please everyone and try to win votes.

Better than that would be:

Non Hawkish foreign policy: Pull troops back, stop foreign intervention, focus on issues actually worrying the population, like airport security, portuary security, border security, and homeland security in general.

Implement an actual progressive tax system that lowers the pressure on the middle class(IE: the one that pushes every country forward instead of backwards)

Government welfare programs that actually reward moving up in wealth, instead of encouraging people to stay poor, or f* up the poor.

Leave the LGBT people alone. Let people get abortions. They'll go to hell for it. (I don't actually believe in hell, but i believe there should be one for people who abort).

Romney would go Milton Friedman on Economics
and wants to try West Euro style Austerity.

Obama wants to go Keynesian on Economics, though
the Senate Filibuster prevented most of that, and while
it's said he's done a "Stimulus" , the overall money/size
of the government has contracted by say about 1%.
(and this is vigorously disputed)

Point of comparison, China did a stimulus and bank
bail-out bigger than the US did, with 1/4th the size
economy at the time, now 1/3rd (!!).  If results matter ...

Non Hawkish foreign policy: Pull troops back,
Repubs are about 1/3rd on that, Dems near 90%

 stop foreign intervention,
Repubs agitate to go bomb Iran now, Dems still want to negotiate.

focus on issues actually worrying the population,
You don't have Propaganda in Brazil do you ?? ...  ;)

like airport security,
Both = way too much // search baby's diapers and grandmom's shoes.

portuary security,
both are lax on this

border security,
Some Repubs think Mexico is invading NOW, both = irrational guest worker program

and homeland security in general.
Repubs created this exact thing ... expanding the size of the government (shhhhh).

Implement an actual progressive tax system that lowers the pressure on the middle class(IE: the one that pushes every country forward instead of backwards)
US taxes are semi-progressive, but hey Romney paid 14%.  Dems want higher taxes on $250 000 earners.

Government welfare programs that actually reward moving up in wealth, instead of encouraging people to stay poor, or f* up the poor.
Repub budgets cuts these by up to 25%. Both =  the overall system lets you work, some.
Obama-Care version of Medicare/Medicaid ... is based on Newt-Care and Romney-Care ... which Repubs have flipped off of.

Leave the LGBT people alone. Let people get abortions. They'll go to hell for it. (I don't actually believe in hell, but i believe there should be one for people who abort).

Ok that last one doesn't register on a US scale.
Social Conservatives don't like your first two positions, but love your 3rd.

Take this with a grain of salt.
