Telegenic trumps all.

I asked a fox news diehard if Fake Blonds lie better than Natural Blonds.
(which of course has nothing really to do with fox news)
He said same to you.
I said my computer wears a wig, and the Internet never lies.
lol, wut

I'm back.  +1 Johnson and 2 votes of "no confidence".  5% come forth!

I went. I read.  I voted.  Sadly much of my ballot had to be left blank as the choices all sucked.
I voted, and left one part blank, as unfortunately I hadn't familiarized myself with the candidates for that office (state's attorney) and they didn't list party affiliations (I guess because the judicial branch is supposed to be kept apart from parisan politics).

Law enforcement is supposed to follow the law, not ideals.  They interpret the law, they don't make new ones.  So basically, the fact that the SCotUS votes along party lines is just plain wrong.

Voted! Though I'm wondering if it's ok I left blank the parts where we had to pick 2/2 candidates and such. It just seemed slightly pointless.

Some places I admit I hadn't familiarized myself enough with the local races and voted on my 5% (if that) party lines: green party represent. x)

I was walking up to where I vote,
and the Fire Alarm was going off.
The building manager wouldn't let anyone in.
The Cops had already shown up, and were just palling around.

I said to the ~20 people waiting:  "Ahh ...  :plotting ... it's a Conspiracy , I tell you."
Half of them laughed ; one was noticeably uncomfortable.
Got to vote like 4 minutes later.

Girl with Purple Hair, wasn't in the registry and was
unable to produce I.D. with a local address on it.
Poll workers said Provisional Ballot.
She said No , and stomped off.

Woman in fancy-motorized wheelchair couldn't vote
without her helper, but the helper legally couldn't help.
I don't think she had used the newest handicap access
terminal before.  I think they got a blank ballot, to "demonstrate"
what to do without seeing what she really did.

There was a bank robbery (armed too) near where I voted.  Fun!

It still will be. Looks like Romney might win the popular vote, but lose the electoral one. I call that motherfucking justice, bitches. Remember Al Gore? Maybe the whining and crying will actually cause some reform in our stupid-assed electoral system (like flushing it down the toilet like the outdated piece of shit it is).

Though on the flip side, the electoral college prevented Hurricane Sandy from simply handing the election to Romney.
Hmm.

Regardless, the electoral votes have to be split within state based on the votes in the state.  So places like California wouldn't give 55 to a single candidate, but split between them.  And (!) independents might actually get an electoral vote, bringing them more into the spotlight.

I did have this thought to help weed out crazies: what if you go with a bottom-up election system, where towns elect their officials, and then once you complete a term there, you can run for a county leadership position.  And when you complete a term there, you can run for state official.  And then after that, you can run for federal official, and after that, you can run for president.  Ideally, this would remove anyone truly insane and give a better representation of what the country wants...

No that would just breed a caste of politicians who exist solely to proceed to the next level of politics.  The level of removal from the common man that career politicians experience is already a problem in America.

Also, the Electoral College actually makes a lot of states that wouldn't matter important.  The population of the US is very compacted in a small number of states and most especially in a small number of urban areas.  It wouldn't make much sense for New York, Boston, Chicago and LA to dictate the presidency to people in Louisiana or Montana.

I don't think that's a good idea. Presidential candidates are pretty old already. There's also that a career in politics is harsh and is known to age people before their time, so if you required people to have at least sixteen years of carrying office before running for President it could well be that there would be no election due to there being not enough candidates available to run, with the politicians either choosing to remain in their own offices, retired, or dead. Finally, I'd put it on record that politicians don't become less insane as their careers progress. It might just make it worse. People love voting for the crazy ones.

What we really need to do is broaden the range of candidates, not narrow it.
