The biggest drawback to playing one is that they probably require more bookkeeping than the wizard, cleric, and druid combined.  If you can deal with it the payoff is totally worth the investment.

My last artificer only had 3 spreadsheets.  :lol

My Artificer's character sheet is a folder... a folder seperated out into individual sections, Six Sections.
"Sheet", "Worn Equipment - Detailed", "Items in my belt of hidden pouches", "items in my handy haversack", "Scrolls / Wands / Schema & other spells", "Campaign notes/journal"
The haversack and hidden pouches make me Batman though, so it's worth it.

An idea toward being the crafter & everycaster:
Binder 1, Wizard 3, Anima Mage.
Binders can be excellent healers and crafters depending on who you have bound... if you can bind the alien summoner then they're ridiculous... infinite alien unicorns = infinite healing. You're still a pretty solid straight up wizard... and you're really adaptable... more paperwork than your average wizard, less than your average artificer.
Do you even need binder 1?Couldn't you just take that feat and then get into Anima Mage without any binder levels?

What would the other half of anima mage advance at that point?

The infinite healing would be considered 'broken' in our DM's eyes.  I think I will go artificer and will get a binder just for her.  Our last cleric had a 3 inch binder COMPLETELY FULL of all his spells and things he had created.

It's something new for me and I can't wait to get started.  I don't mind the paperwork.  I just need to get down to it before our game tomorrow night.  She has 3 levels worth of experience to use for items.  Time to have some fun!  Kessabink Pyrobyte... the world's greatest gnome Artificer (in her eyes at least) is on duty! :D

Thank you everyone!  If anyone has an ideas on how to make her better or things to watch out for or definitely, let me know :D

Artificers are definitely my favorite class. It's kinda a chameleon class - you can do anything you want with it. Use it wisely!

Binders make great crafters, thanks to Astaroth.  Make whatever you need at the time.

And if you mix with Ur-Priest and divine-adapted anima mage, then (since you're evil) you can sacrifice people for Darkcraft gp & xp.

As a gnome, you have a monopoly on the Bind Elemental feat from the Eberron Campaign Setting book.  Details for using the feat to create airships are found in the Explorer's Handbook.  Ask the GM about questing for a Khyber dragonshard of sufficient size to help reduce the cost.
Declare the ship to be your stronghold, and take the Landlord feat at level 9 (Stronghold Builder's Guidebook) to provide copious amounts of money to spend on the creation of the ship and upgrades for it (ballistae, spell turrets, crew, etc.)

The Artificer's Handbook found here has everything you need to know.  The most important piece of advice in the book, IMO, is the distribution of ability scores.  Intelligence is your most important stat, not Charisma as the Eberron Campaign Setting claims.  Charisma governs only Use Magic Device, which determines how easily you can create magic items and is easily boosted with skill boosters.  Intelligence governs everything else about the class including your Infusions.

Well.... I was going to suggest a cloistered cleric with the spell and/or magic domains who trades out the knowledge domain for the divine magician ACF, but it seems a decision has already been made. :D

Binder?

"At each anima mage level, your soul binding ability improves as if you had also gained a level in the binder class. "

Zero binder levels->1 binder levels is 1 level of soul binding.
