Need help consolidating spells/powers lists
« on: April 24, 2013, 07:13:18 PM »
One of my players in my upcoming campaign is a little overwhelmed with the task of putting together his spells/powers list for his character.
Because of the sheer volume, I wouldn't imagine asking for defined list; rather, what I'm looking for is specific strategies for filling said lists.

Here's the character:
Multi-stalt (5), level 15
rakshasa 15 (I've allowed just continuing racial HD, so 8 RHD + 7 LA)//wizard 15//psion 15//factotum 15//warblade 15

I think his maneuvers are already set; but hell if I know what they are right now.  I know that he was planning on using his sorcerer slot for low-level utility spells.  Everything else is pretty open.

I'll have punch and pie for everyone who shows up. :D

Thanks.

That sounds like one crazy game....

Does factotum extra action ability stack?

That's the point.  I'm gonna run it 'til it just falls completely apart.

Itself.  Can you burn Inspiration points to take 2, 3, 4 standard actions during the same turn.  The text is unclear on this.

Oh wow, I've never noticed that -- that's the only ability that doesn't list what kind of action it is to use.  Huh.
I'm gonna have to remedy this .... make it a swift action?

Well changing it to take an action really weakens it... I would say just limit it to one per turn claiming a variant of "same source bonus" type thing. :)

Ah -- yeah, because everything else also takes various types of actions.  So, you would be burning your swift action and 3 IP to do ..... something really crappy.

I think I can go with that.

I'd highly recommend using this for sorcerer and wizard spells and using tome of ancient lore + multiple blessed books + secret page spell combo for wizard spells. That should make things quite simple.

I don't have any idea for psion powers other than choose them from the book and write them down.

I hope that helps.

So, I've finally gotten around to emailing said player with the strategy that I feel lends itself to the most practical and easy to manage lists:

Quote
I've been thinking about strategies for spell selection (i.e., this is the way that I, personally, would go about it):

Psion:
 -- powers that are uniquely psionic, or that are strictly superior to their magic equivalents (such as through greater versatility from augments)
 -- effects that are indeed useful, but not common enough to dedicate a daily wizard spell slot on (i.e., too situational, emergency in-a-pinch, etc.).
Sorcerer: I think you've already got this covered; but just for completeness ...
 -- see #2 of psion ;
 -- stuff where DC or caster level isn't much of an issue.  Some very effective ones that jump off the top of my head:
   * dimension door (4th-level) ; lesser celerity (2nd) ; celerity (4th) ; arcane fusion (when you eventually get 5th-level sorcerer spells, that is)
   * other low-level utilities
Factotum:
 -- see sorcerer
 -- since you'll probably have the skill points, you might as well max UMD
Wizard:  everything not above.  I figure that it will be best to save this for last -- since it is so wide open, if you use your other classes as kind of a process-of-elimination, you'll be able to more easily focus how you want to spend your daily spell slots (especially in regards to customizing for specific needs).

I know that seemed pretty bare-bones; but at least it gives you a push in a manageable direction.

Thoughts?
