Him
« on: June 27, 2013, 10:47:36 PM »
That's right, Him. The one so sinister, so evil, so scary, so horribly vile that his real name can never be said, thus striking fear into the hearts of men.

I've had Him stuck in my head all day and now I want to be terrible and gather opinions on what kind of build Him would have as a D&D character. I'm also fairly sleep deprived at the moment and thus never really got past thinking about what race Him might be and I kept coming back to Tiefling but I've no doubt there has to be something more appropriate. Any published book, Dragon Magazine, homebrew shtick or whatever. Please avoid Pathfinder like the plague that it is, that is my only caveat.

Him is quite prone to screwing with people's minds and seems to have a heavy focus in enchantments, but more often than not these merely play out as an appetizer far from the main course. He also seems to dabble in some decent summoning of giant monsters. When provoked he is easily capable of going heavy melee mode and vastly increasing his size and overall power. Also capable of altering his form and/or polymorphing at will into any many of creature. Pretty much a somewhat amazing enchanter/evocation(evoker?) with a casual interest in summoning, capable of flipping the switch to hard mode and jumping right into the midst of melee with little effort. Um, and clearly lesser diety at worst. And can we throw in some Gestalt rules in the off chance I want to use this in a super heavily themed demon infested apocalyptic world? Because that suddenly just became a serious idea for me with actual plausibility in late game which would probably be near epic if not low epic.

For those not caught on yet, I'm talking about Him.

Please & Thank you!
And again, I'm pretty sleep deprived so either I'm posting this in the wrong place or I'm lacking information, please tell me  :huh

Well, a good place to start is the Vecna-blooded template (MM5 66).  That would actually make his name and past a secret, and immediately knowing about anyone casting a divination about Him just screams for him to mess with people (as a deity, he would know only if people called him by his common name, this would let him know if anyone had his secret name)
Aside from that, most deities only have standard class levels and a single magic item, so unless this guy is really different, just go ahead an make some fluff up.
They did stat out Asmodeus in Fiendish Codex II, but it's not much help aside from feat choices.

Oh man I was not expecting a real reply.

Definitely thank you though, the Vecna-blooded really gives a great starting point for me as I didn't know that :D
I think I'm actually going to try to mock up a build now and post it sometime later, like I probably am suppose to for threads like this, now. xD

Gestalt Side 1: Incubus 11/Fiend of Corruption 6/Vecna Blooded 1/ X 2
Gestalt Side 2: Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Dread Witch 5

Use Spontaneous Divination + Versatile Spellcaster & at higher level take Uncanny Forethought to allow him to practically cast ANY spell in his spellbook on the fly just for S&G's.

Fiend of Corruption fits well with Him's mind fuubaring capabilities.

I kinda just threw incantatrix out there so he could persistent spell a ton of buffs on him all day long so when he does want to jump into melee he already has his buffs on hand.

Dread Witch is particularly flavorful since most creatures end game have immunity to mind effecting, but at least with Dread Witch him can having them running around screaming like little babies. ^_^

If you really want him to mess with people I would recommend looking into the Heroes of Horror Oneiromancy spells. They are well worth the feat investment especially since Manifest Desire / Nightmare still shows you the targets greatest Fear/Desire even if they make the save.

HIM!!!!

Him is awesome... you could go something like
(click to show/hide)

That would have a lot of HIM flavor  :devil   and pretty much do everything you said... Adding in any Gestalt just gets ridiculous pretty fast hehe

Roses are Red. Gaming is fun. You're over encumbered and cannot Run.

Oh, hmm, that's also really good. I could definitely go with that warlock stuff and gestalt it with the Incubus stuff Eviltedzies mentioned.

Adam Warlock is awesome..  I have some of the later comics with him. Never knew he was originally called Him though. Interesting stuff..
