How do you get AoO while using a ranged weapon?

As the subject. If you're playing a full ranged character how do you maximise your ability to gain AoO's?

I remember a certain ranger spell that allowed you to make AoO in a large area with your bow. It was 1st or 2nd level, i think

I remember a PrC or feat or something that required Combat Reflexes.  You could give up all of your extra AoOs in a round to threaten the spaces in one range increment (I think) to make a single AoO.  I can't recall what it was named, though...

AoEs with your bow (and you don't provoke). 4 levels of ranger in your build probably won't hurt too much. Limited choice of weapons, but you can't have everything.

Oh, yeah, this is what that spell was called. But Spell Compendium version is better, it work with any kind of weapon, that fires projectiles.

The SC version is better, you're right, but it does say 'projectile weapon that fires arrows'. I'd have no problem reflavouring it, though. Halfling with skiprocks maybe?

An Elvencraft Bow (ROTW-166) lets you freely switch between using your bow as a bow or as a club/quarterstaff.  Only +300gp

Whites of Their Eyes:
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: With this trick, a Sniper threatens all squares in her normal reach, and can use her ranged weapon to make Attacks of Opportunity.
Normal: Only melee weapons can be used to make Attacks of Opportunity.

Double Jeopardy:
Prerequisites: Whites of Their Eyes
Benefit: This trick allows a Sniper to threaten any square (or squares) occupied by creatures she hit in the previous round.  If anyone moves through those squares, the Sniper may make an Attack of Opportunity against them with her ranged weapon.
Special:This does not allow a Sniper to take more than one Attack of Opportunity per round unless she has some other ability granting this (e.g. Combat Reflexes).

Prerequisites: Whites of Their Eyes, Double Jeopardy
Benefit: This trick allows a Sniper to threaten any squares threatened by creatures she hit in the previous round.  If anyone moves through those squares, the Sniper may make an Attack of Opportunity against them with her ranged weapon.

2 level Sniper dip to get Whites of Their Eyes.  Later feats could be used on Extra Trick to get the other two.

I believe it was the Peerless Archer PrC that allowed you to threaten with the bow up to 30ft (CF of the last level of the PrC).

Peerless Archer 8 (Character Level 15+) allowed to you threaten at 10 feet as if you were wielding a reach weapon.  It is from 3.0's Silver Marches.  Among its other good features, at 3rd level it allows you to Power Attack with a bow.  Also gets +4d6 ranged sneak attack over 10 levels.
