Augment Summoning
« on: June 26, 2013, 03:48:30 PM »
I want to score this on my level 3 druid. I only have one spare feat, though, and no Spell Focus (Conjuration). I can't afford to take a level in Conjurerer or Cleric. Is it impossible?

What is your race?

What is your alignment?

What other feats do you have?

Are unearthed arcana flaws allowed?

Snow Elf, True Neutral, Ashbound, Greenbound Summoning, Zen Archery, I already took flaws.

Isn't there a ring that gives your summons the benefits of Augment Summoning, but makes them last half as long?
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Changing your race to one that grants a bonus feat would also do it. Human, Illumian, Azurin, and Strongheart Halfling come to mind.

The Ring of Mighty Summons cuts duration in half in exchange for max hp for the summons. At 14,000 gp, it's not an option for a 3rd lv character but it's worth thinking about for later.

How much do you really need Zen Archery? Your summons will be beating the crap out of everything and you've (presumably) got an animal companion to boot. I would just go with regular Dex based archery and not worry if you don't hit very often.

Yeah, I'd recommend dropping Zen Archery too.  It's not going to do you much good if your specialty is summoning, which it definitely looks like it is based on Ashbound and Greenbound.  Why did you think you needed to take it?

Also, your race has a bonus to dex. How much higher is your wis than dex anyway

I figured having the ability to harm enemies indefinitely would be useful. My dex is 10 and my wis is 17, but I'll be bumping it up to 18 next level.

Planar Touchstone -> Catalogues of Enlightenment -> Dragon Below Domain.

Basically, as long as you make sure to summon some stuff every combat, you don't need to do anything else to contribute. Greenbound Ashbound wolverines kick ass at 3rd level, as do GB AB crocodiles. Spend your open feat on whatever you want (even Zen Archery, though IMO it's a waste), and you'll still be just fine. Hell, you bring more raw fighting power to the table than two Fighters! Plinking away with a longbow for an occasional d8 will just make you feel smaller in the pants than if you hang back and relax until your animal companion and summons have finished the fight.

Try to get a Ring of the Beast ASAP.

Casting your Summon Nature's ally from a lower spell slot is pretty crazy.

At 3rd level, initiate of malar sorta works, except only for animals, which conflicts with greenbound.

At 6th and higher, then planar touchstone works.

Maybe Dragon Magazine might have an obscure 'gain a domain power' feat that works sort of like the touchstone feat trick?

According to dragon magazine, a 3k gp magic item is enough to effectively gain access to a clerical domain (the item in the issue gives access to the spells and granted domain power of the strength domain)

Touchstone requires 8 ranks in Know (the Planes). He is only 3rd level, and his 6th level feat should go to Natural Spell rather than touchstone. So he'd have to wait 6 levels of play before he could use this...

Not to mention that getting those benefits in-game required some planar travel, which may be difficult at lower levels.

Check my Class Boosters thread under Druid and Magical Locations. I think I have something listed there that'll help.
