What to do with one level of Martial Monk?
« on: July 18, 2013, 09:48:36 PM »
We have a factotum->shadowpouncer in the group, and he's considering a level of monk to pick up Sun School (for the extra attack when he shadowpounces). Other than Weapon Supremacy, what would you suggest for the bonus feat from Martial Monk (It's any fighter feat, ignoring all prerequisites)?

Greater Two-Weapon Fighting.
It says you get a third off hand attack, well in order to make that third you must have made two off-hand attacks before it...[/word twist]

Other than that, honestly not sure. Most Fighter Feats suck without TO-level interpretation (like lightning maces). Is Snap Kick a Fighter Bonus?

Ring the Golden Bell, Dragon Mag #?: WisMod+1/day your unarmed attack is a ranged attack.
Robilar's Gambit, requires decent Dex and Combat Reflexes.
Boomerang Daze: Instant CC action.
Whirlwind Attack: Before BAB grants additional Attacks per round, this is a great alternative.

DNDtools says it isn't, and the book likewise says it's not.

Martial Study or Martial Stance: Something really good and high level (assuming you can ignore initiator level)

Those Feats don't say they are Fighter Bonus Feats and nor does Martial Monk allow you to choose Feats off the Epic Fighter Feat list (which inherently requires you to be Fighter 20+ to be able to select anything in the epic list).

For Reference: "A monk need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for these feats to select them."

Martial Stance requires another maneuver in the Benefits, so that's a no-go. Martial Study requires you to meet prerequisites in the benefits to choose the maneuver. The key point here is that he ignores the prerequisites of selecting feats, not the prerequisites of using them.

I'm thinking Mercurial Strike if it fulfills all the requirements for Iaijutsu+Quickrazor shenanigans.

EDIT: He qualifies for mercurial strike anyway, so he might as well grab weapon supremacy or something.

It really depends on the build, what he has and what he wants to get to. Can you post some more info so we might be able to make educated guesses?

He's a Level 8 Factotum, going for a level of Martial Monk right after, followed by Telflammar Shadowlord. He's doing the Factotum/Quickrazor/Iaijutsu thing, and 90% of his feats are currently locked into getting into shadowlord.
