Skills: 8+Int modifier per level (x4 at 1st level.
Class Skills: Balance, Bluff , Climb, Concentration , Diplomacy , Disguise, Gather Information, Hide, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (any), Listen, Move Silently, Open Lock, Search, Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Spellcraft, Spot, Survival, Tumble and Use Magic Device.
Proficiencies: Simple and Martial Weapons, Monk Weapons, Light Armor.
Class Features:Yamabushi Tengu Body: The Oni, Yamabushi Tengu loses all other racial bonus and gains outsider traits (basically darkvision 60’) plus the [tengu], [native], and [shapechanger] subtypes. It's a medium sized outsider with base speed 30 feet and a Bite Natural attack dealing 1d4+1/2 Str mod.
The Oni, Yamabushi Tengu also gains Low-light Vision a +2 bonus to Natural Armor.
Change Shape: As a standard action at will, the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu can take the form of a human as per the SRD Change Shape ability. However they don't gain the Disguise bonus to pass as someone in specific, as for invariably the shapechanged oni’s nose remains quite prodigious, usually to an almost comical degree. An Oni, Yamabushi Tengu of 4th level or higher may also choose to retain its wings, and thus it flight capability.
Susceptible to Patterns: A yamabushi tengu takes a –2 penalty on all saving throws against illusion spells of the pattern subschool. For 1 round after a yamabushi tengu either makes a successful save against a pattern or recovers from the effects of a pattern, it is Dazzled for 1 round.
Yamabushi Weapons: A yamabushi tengu is proficient with all monk weapons and all swordlike weapons (including katanas/bastard swords and wakizashi), and gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls with such weapons. If all Oni, Yamabushi Tengu levels were taken, this bonus increases by an extra +1 at 6 HD and every 6 HD thereafter.
Yamabushi Tengu Magic: At the indicated levels the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu becomes able to use some SLAs a certain number of times per day. Save DCs are 10+1/2 HD+Cha mod.
- Least: At first level Ventriloquism and Ray of Enfeeblement each 2/day per HD.
- Lesser: At second level See Invisibility constant effect on self.
- Advanced: At third level Hideous Laughter and Scorching Ray each 1/day per HD and Blur 1/day per 3 HD.
- Adept: At fourth level Glitter Dust 1/day per 4 HD.
- Master: At fifth level Dimension Door 1/day per 5 HD.
Ability Score Increase: The Oni, Kuwa gains a permanent
- +1 to Dex at levels 1, 4 and 5.
- +1 to Cha at levels 3 and 5.
- +1 to Con at levels 2, 4 and 5.
For a total of +3 Dex, +3 Con and +2 Cha at 5th level.
Oni: At 2nd level the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu gains regeneration equal to half its HD, that is bypassed by fire or acid, plus SR equal to 11+HD, which may be raised or dropped as a free action.
Steal Voice: At third level up to three times per day, but no more than once per target, a yamabushi tengu can attempt to steal a victim’s voice as part of its bite attack (chosen after knowing if the attack hit or not). When it does so, the creature bitten must make a DC 10+1/2 HD+Cha mod Will save or lose the ability to speak aloud. This prevents the use of any spell with verbal components and the use of commandword-activated magic items, among other difficulties.
The yamabushi tengu's voice changes to match the one stolen. The victim’s voice remains stolen until the oni steals another voice, until the oni agrees to give the stolen voice back (a standard requiring the oni to touch the victim), or until the next sunrise. Any effect that removes curses (such as remove curse or break enchantment ) can restore a stolen voice (DC for success equals the save DC of the steal voice ability), as does the death of the oni who stole the voice in the first place.
Wings: at 4th level the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu can fly at its base speed with average maneuverability.
Tricky Thief: At 4th and 5th level the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu picks one of the following abilities:
Got you where I want-When the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu is affected by an adjacent enemy, as an immediate action it may perform a Disarm or Sleight of Hand action on said enemy and adding its Cha mod to all involved rolls.
Shiny Stuff-The Oni, Yamabushi Tengu gains the Trapfinding ability as if it was a Rogue, and may add its Cha mod to Search, Disable Device and Open Lock checks. In addition whenever it hits an enemy in melee it may disable one magic item they're carrying as an immediate action (re-starting a magic item from this is a standard action). Disabled magic weapons/armor/shield may still be used as mundane.
I wasn't Aiming At That-When the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu misses a ranged attack, as an immediate action it may re-roll it aiming at another target whitin 30 feet. In addition his Ray of Enfeeblement and Scorching Ray SLAs now recharge hourly and no longer have CL caps.
Standing Show-Enemies fooled by the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu's Ventroloquism SLA take a -2 penalty on saves against its other abilities. When an enemy misses against the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu or the Oni misses an attack against an enemy, it may use its Hideous Laughter SLA as an immediate action against said enemy, and they no longer take a +4 bonus on their save for being of a diferent species. In addition the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu's Ventroliquism and Hideous Laughter SLAs now recharge hourly.
Light Distraction-If under its Blur SLA and attacked by a non-adjacent enemy, as an immediate action the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu may automatically end the Blur effect to attempt to hide despite being observed, adding its Cha mod to Hide and Move Silently (the attack still affects it normally). Enemies failing their save against Glitterdust lose any of their special senses besides normal listening ability, such as blindsight/tremorsense/mindsight/scent unless they were already blind. Even if they save, they still lose any special senses for 1 round, too busy looking at the pretty colors. In addition the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu's Glitterdust and Blur SLAs now recharge hourly.
Greedy Bird: Most of what a yamabushi tengu plots or plans can be traced to a desire to gather as much shiny treasure as possible. At 5th level a party with an Oni, Yamabushi Tengu member may choose for their exp rewards for facing a challenge to be equal to the total worth of items they acquired from enemies in Gold Pieces terms instead of what it would otherwise be. So for example if the Oni, Yamabushi Tengu faces an enemy, manages to steal their sword and then bravely runs away with it, it could choose to gain exp equal to the value of the sword in GP (instead of no exp for turning tail).
Duck Paranoia
“It's not devils or demons or dragons you have to be afraid of. It's the ducks. Everywhere, silently observing, scheming... They must be stopped at all costs!”
If you pick this flaw, if at the start of your turn you can detect a duck, there's a 50% chance you must spend your turn killing as many ducks as possible. Only an Oni, Yamabushi Tengu may pick Duck Paranoia as a Flaw.
And here's the second Oni, basically an evil Tengu with a massive nose instead of a beak.
The base Oni, Yamabushi Tengu comes with a quite nice array of SLAs, strong skills, standard flight and exotic melee support plus a cool fluffy ability that is also useful against spellcasters.
That fitted the first three levels quite nicely, but the last two seemed somewhat empty so came out with the the Tricky Thief abilities. Still wanted something for a "capstone" and then I remembered all the recent D&D Next discussions about how on the old days you would get exp directly from your loot.
Anyway half asleep right now so not much sure if what I'm typing even makes sense.
So if you want to play an ancient nosy monster that just wants to take other people's stuff, the Yamabushi Tengu Oni's for you!
