Rifts Advice
« on: March 04, 2014, 09:02:33 PM »
I know this is more of a D&D forum; however, my wife and I met some people who are running a "Rifts" game.  Does anyone have any advice on what a fun character would be?  I've been looking maybe asking if I could play a Cosmo Knight since they're basically a magical version of a glitterboy that appears to level up well without a big need for character wealth.  Are there other options I can do if this is stricken from the list of OCCs?
So, how much experience do I get for the peasant?

The Rifts system is horribly, awfully broken. Step 1 is asking the GM what house rules are in effect and what classes and such are allowed. That is usually step one, but to make Rifts playable every GM I know basically made up rules as they went along because they were necessary.

Its fun. And with a good GM is perfectly fine to play. But you really need to talk to them first. When I ran it I didn't allow Dragons, Juicers, and Crazies for a variety of reasons but would at least entertain most of the other things.

Play whatever you want. Just make sure everyone in the party has about the same power level.

I played quite a bit, under several different GMs, and GMd myself a bit. The fluff is great fun, but the power levels are just all over the place.  There's basically no point to optimizing. If you want something more powerful, play something like a godling, cosmoknight, or young dragon. If you want to die in the first round, play a vagabond or something.  :lmao

I can pretty much second their ideas.  Rifts is all over the damn place.  Palladium is iffy in general, but none of their games is as borked as Rifts.

I loved my Leyline Walker. That's all I can recommend.

lol, reminds me of the single time I ever played Rifts.  I played a single gaming session of 4 hours and that's all I needed to realize how overpowered the system was.  I was a Godling sniper that was electrokinetic meaning I controlled electricity.  He rode a white pegasus, and teleports wherein he appears in a thunderclap.  The first fight was against a guy in a robot suit.  He was wiping the floor with the other party members when I appeared in a flash of light and a thunderclap swooping in on my white winged horse.  I stopped him from shooting the party members first by using my sniper rifle to blow off his shoulder gun, then pulled all the electricity from the robot suit thereby shutting it down.  Then when the guy inside it opened the door and climbed out, I used all the power I pulled from the suit into the guy and fried him.  That's when I knew it was borked.  I finished that session then rode off into the sky and thunderclapped away never to play again.  :lol :lmao
