3.5 Crit Range
« on: June 30, 2014, 12:27:31 AM »
Looking at making a Scout 4/Rogue 6.

I'm trying to find all the ways I can get get skirmish/sneak attacks, and one I recently found was Telling Blow.

So, I need to make with the crits, but I'll be cycling though a lot of weapons, as I plan on going a tad crazy with things like wrist blades, toe blades, knee blades, elbow blades and whatever other hidden weapons I can get.

So my primary weapons would be Kukri normally. Is there a way I can acquire Improved crit on all my knives?

Unearthed Arcana - Weapon Groups.

Requires DM approval; so if the game is already in motion, and weapon groups are not in use, you may be assed out.

Ah, my DM has already said no to that. I suppose the best thing to do is just go with daggers.

http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=942570

Is the character. I'll be using tumble a lot to get skirmish bonuses, plus a few times in each encounter I'll be getting sneak attack from lots of ways.

Telling Blow - If I score a crit, I get a sneak. Oddly, according to the way I read it, this could make it so I get sneak attack at greater than 30 feet.

Flick the Wrist - Draw a dagger, get a sneak. once per baddy per encounter

Hidden Blade - Draw a hidden weapon, get a sneak. So basically, flick first, then hidden blade turn.

Sudden Blade - Provoke from me, get a sneak.

Acrobatic Backstab - This is a little bit of the bread and butter of the character. If I'm right, I should be able to activate Skirmish whenever I use it as well.

I go first - get a sneak.

I believe a wand is pretty much like a dagger as far as improvised weapons go. Sadly I can't use Dungeon Scape, or I'd have my knives rigged out with wand slots.

Depending on the parties optimization level, and you're not making encounters ridiculously easy, you may get some mileage by asking your DM if you can enchant your toeblades etc with Aptitude, or, failing that, even though it'll get quite expensive, it leaves him open to abuse from you taking a million WSA's (in return for reducing your resources), ask if you can take your toeblades to a crafter and come up with a design for having them made as if they were Kukri's, but this is a lower cost than the 22K it'll cost to enchant all your Weapons with Aptitude likely enough.

Weapon Special Ability; it's the "flaming" or "keen" which you add on to a weapon. For example, a +1 Frost Axe is an Axe with a +1 Enhancement bonus and the Frost Weapon Special Ability, or WSA for short.

Was talking to another player, and came up with the idea of using a Thri-Kreen as a rogue with telling blow.

Essentially use the complete psionic book (Since we're only allowed to use the complete series)

2 levels monsterous humanoid, 3 levels rogue, 3 levels swashbuckler, next level take another level of swash and pick up daring outlaw.

By the end, If i pick up no more than one more level of rogue, I'll have at level 20(18) +17 BAB just barely getting me enough to make 4 attacks at my highest bab.

Now I'm just slightly confused on my attacks.

If I weild 3 rapiers and a kukri, do I take -4 or -2 (I have multi-weapon fighting)

Insectile (Non-Psionic) Thri-Keen HD 2/LA+3/Totemist 2/Warblade 1/Sneak Attack Thug Fighter 7/Bloodstorm Blade 4/Full BAB.

Pick up Point Blank Shot, Alertness, Weapon Focus (Claw), Multidexterity, Multiweapon Fighting, Improved Multiweapon Fighting, Greater Multiweapon Fighting, Craven and Telling Blow (via Flaws).

Any magic items you can use to help qualify gives you access to Rapidstrike and Improved Rapidstrike for a further 5 Attacks. LA Buy-off too can be useful.

It's not expressly clear if it adds to all Sneak Attacks, but if it does, you add +4d6+17 to each Attack.

The weapons you want are +1 Speed, Deadly Precision (Complete Adv if possible, MIC nerfed it) Assassination Keen Manyfang (take from the Manyfang dagger, Serpent Kingdoms) Kukri's, with a Rogues Vest, Mantle of the Predator, Bracers of the Hunt and Bracers of Murder (MiC to combine the two). The bracers of murder change your minimum SA damage from 1 to 2 (average 3.5 becomes 4).

If you score a Sneak Attack that is also a Critical Hit, you're dealing +14d6+85 damage. That's on each attack.

This is your attack routine as well

Claw/Claw, Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri/Kukri.

(Claws would 'only' do +10d6+34 unless they too have the enchantments added from a Necklace of Natural Attacks, in which case they'd match. Because theory crafting/math hammering is fun, your total sneak attack on just such an occasion would be - 378d6+2295 damage at up to 50ft range.
