Buu Race
« on: March 09, 2015, 12:59:02 AM »
This is where I will put the stats for the Buu race (Dragonball Z)

notes/ideas to remember:
  • Buus can NEVER level in classes, they only get stronger through absorption
  • Buus aren't very smart, wise, or good looking (penalties to Int, Wis, Cha)
  • Buus gain additional HD through absorption (more details on that later)
  • Buus can learn a new ability just by seeing/experiencing it once (provided their HD= caster level necessary to use ability)
  • Buus have Baleful Polymorph at will (details later)
  • Absorbing beings of a polar opposite alignment will make the Buu weak (they lose HD/abilities)
  • Buus have Regeneration (x?), all damage except (X?) is subdual
  • Food is not really a necessity, more like a drug addiction that can be temporarily solved with a "quick fix."  Any being polymorphed into food only solves the hunger and doesn't count as absorption.

Will work on this more later.

Super Bu is pretty smart despite seeming a brute, quoting TV Tropes:
Quote
Bond Villain Stupidity: Averted on every level. Super Buu is very pragmatic in battle and will not hesitate to kill, eat, absorb anyone who gets in his way. The worst thing about it is that he does it with a great amount of surprise. No evil laughing, taunting or mocking. Just straight up death. The only instances he'll every draw out a battle is to discover the weakness of his opponents. When he does find out their weaknesses, he will exploit them to devastating effect. Whether it's flaws in power or personality traits of the opponent.

Although, he was caught somewhat flat-footed when Gotenks revealed he could go Super Saiyan 3 and he was almost killed if the fusion did not break apart when it did. Not to mention, he only escaped from the Time Chamber because he threw a temper tantrum, otherwise he would have been trapped in there forever.

Quote
The Chessmaster: No, he seriously was. Super Buu Out-Gambitted everyone in the Majin Buu Arc. And it wasn't just a basic case of Super Buu out smarting them or getting lucky, he covertly came up several plans to become the strongest in the universe and with every plan he came up with, he thought of several back up plans as well. He also manipulated many of the heroes into making himself seem like less of a threat and when the opportunity presented itself from the heroes being arrogant, he would not only take advantage of it but also made sure that there were some contingency plans if things were to go against him. And it worked like a charm, because he technically never loses a battle. And any battle that it seems like he is losing, he's losing on purpose because it's all a part of his plan. It took the Story-Breaker Power of Vegetto just to slow him down. Although in the case of Vegetto, he purposely prolong the battle so he could be absorbed and rescue the others taken by Buu. Otherwise, he would had killed Buu easily.

Quote
Dangerously Genre Savvy: Super Buu's surprisingly high intellect and cunning caught a lot of people off-guard in the Buu Arc. Super Buu demanded seeing the "Strong Fighter"/Gotenks (Goten and Trunks fused together) he was promised by Goku, in an effort to buy more time Piccolo suggests that Buu amuse himself by terrorizing the people of Earth, knowing they can be revived with the Dragon Balls. Despite Majin Buu previous rampage there were still billions of humans left on earth so Piccolo thought that with that many humans left it would take Super Buu at least a few hours to fly across the world and terrorize every single one of them. Super Buu instead kills every single human, with the exceptation of Mr Satan, Tien, Chiaotzu and all those present on Kami's Lookout in only two minutes and never left Kami's Lookout while doing it. All of humanity had essentially become a sacrificial lamb for the sake of giving Goten and Trunks just two more of minutes of time to train. It's safe to say that Piccolo's plan of trying to outsmart Super Buu to gain more time backfired on him tremendously.

In stark contrast to other major DBZ villains such as Vegeta, Cell and Freeza, Super Buu goes out of his way to prevent his enemies from getting stronger, even when he's sure their boost won't be enough, just to not take chances. He prefers to just straight up kill them. He does this when Gohan and Goku attempt to fuse, and later when Goku and Vegeta attempt the same.
His reaction when Gohan and Goku try to fuse?

Buutenks: Even if you fuse, you'll be no match for me... but why take the chance? I'll kill you both now!

Quote
Manipulative Bastard: Super Buu's surprisingly high intellect and cunning caught a lot of people off-guard in the Buu Arc as he ran rings around the Z-Fighters, making himself look much stupider than he truly was to put the heroes in false sense of security and then strike when they weren't expecting it. It got to the point where he was acting like the The Chessmaster and was playing the Z-Fighters like pawns .

Quote
Out-Gambitted

Super Buu out-gambit everyone to the point he could be the trope image. He out-smarted Piccolo by killing everyone in the planet when Piccolo suggested he amuse himself with the survivors to buy more time so Trunks and Goten could train. He used Gotenks' arrogance against him and absorbed him along with Piccolo to create the nearly invincible Super Fusion Buu that wrecked Gohan. When Goku showed up, he made sure they couldn't fuse and when his time ran out with Gotenks, he simply absorbed Gohan, becoming even more powerful. His only real failure was not killing Goku and instead humor him to merge with someone, the only people left were Denda and Mr. Satan. Then again, how could even he predict Vegeta would come back since he died earlier against the much weaker Fat Buu.

Quote
Xanatos Speed Chess: Super Buu is very good at doing this, despite being a mere thug in personality. He noticed Gohan's growing power, so he fought against Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and tested the limits of his strength and his weaknesses (e.g. fusion limit). After briefly fighting Gohan and finding himself overwhelmed, he goes through an intentional Super Power Meltdown, knowing he will regenerate and buys time (and getting Goten and Trunks to recuperate, to fuse again). When he returns he goads Goten and Trunks into fusing again at full power and absorbs Gotenks and Piccolo into his being, deciding 30 minutes is more than enough to handle Gohan (he was right). Goku arrives and the fusion breaks down. Goku says Gohan alone is strong enough to defeat Buu, but then Buu reveals that he planned for this eventuality as well, and had a piece of himself ready to absorb Gohan the whole time, who he goaded into standing still until it was too late. Interestingly, the only character this didn't work on is Vegito, who was too strong, too wily, and had plans of his own, as he later found out...

As you can see, that point is false.

Quote
  • Absorbing beings of a polar opposite alignment will make the Buu weak (they lose HD/abilities)

Gohan, Gotenks and South Kaio Shin made him stronger (yes, South Kaio Sin making him weaker was a translation mistake, the only one who makes him weaker is the supreme kaio shin, the most common theory is that he somehow sealed part of the power of Majin Boo).  False again.

Quote
  • Food is not really a necessity, more like a drug addiction that can be temporarily solved with a "quick fix."  Any being polymorphed into food only solves the hunger and doesn't count as absorption.

Evil Bu absorbed Good Bu this way. False again.
Now I've lost it, I know I can kill. The truth exists beyond the Gate!

This race has absolutely nothing to do with Super Buu.  All of the facts you quotes you spoke are true for Super Buu, but Kid Buu was just "rage incarnate" and Fat Buu was "a man sized toddler", neither of which were very bright.
This race actually takes place in the expanded universe of Dragonball when Mr. Buu was lonely after looking at a few of Mr. Satan's magazines and actually made a mate for himself named Boobie (or Miss Buu, depending on the translation).  These are the offspring of the two.  All of their spawn  either resemble Fat Buu or Kid Buu (only they have actual genders).

Is it bad when I first read the title I was expecting a Bhu race of kitten people?

As for helping, since it was requested of me, my knowledge is limited to DBZ's Buu Saga and a dim awareness that they made it into an actual race.  Sadly I can't really focus right now on account of apparently transforming into a Thrall of Nurgal, but for what it's worth the only powers of note you probably need to address are body manipulation and general ki talent.  I know the race is weaker than their progenitor Mr. Buu, so try and identify what is Mr. Buu specific, and what is universal to all the buu race.  Then remove things which are learned skills, and stick to purely racial traits.

Laying back down now, see you after conversion into a pile of mucus.

I'm sorry, you want to make a Majin Buu-themed race but you don't want to include the Buu variant that got the most screentime or that most people think of when they want to play as one? Seems silly. Super Buu's the best variant of Buu IMO, and the most playable.

Fat Buu is still pretty smart, he's just immature.

And the Majin race? Nothing actually stops them from being intelligent - in fact, a couple of games they're in they're just as smart as everyone else.

Personally I think they'd work best as a race with very few racial abilities but regeneration or fast healing  as their main reason to paly one by itself, maybe with some penalties to stats... And then a racial paragon class going from 5-20 levels, somewhere in that range (PRetty broad range but I'm not entirely sure what you're aiming for). The paragon class would give them the ability to absorb people, eventually bump their fast healing up to regeneration, and as they level up or after a certain number of levels and HD (Assuming it's a low nubmer of levels) gain more racial abilities. The class itself, if 1-20, might actually have  quite a few dead-ish levels that are largely so that you can store class abilities from other classes, along with possibly a few racial abilities or at least boosts to their ability scores (Kid Buu got stronger from absorbing the super muscular Kaio, for example, and even if you don't like him Super Buu progressively got smarter the more people he absorbed too. Especially when he absorbed Piccolo, though.)
One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.

If it helps, I made a race/monster with an "absorb ability score" feature, the Omophagae Rat.  It might help you if you decide to go that route.

Oh, I'd have no idea where to begin building a Majin race / class / whatever. I mean, I have the basics, obviously, but...

That monster's kinda neat, actually. "I eat the Illithids brain. TAKE THAT."

Off the top of my head.... is a hat.

And in this hat.... is a sheet of paper, written in smears of an unknown red substance and coffee stains...

It says...

Quote
MAJIN

Outsider (Native)
+2 Any.
*30 ft move
*Darkvision 60 ft
*Absorb (Ex): Swallowed creatures who have died within 24 hours can be absorbed.  You can absorb one of the ability scores of your choice, refer to the Omop. Rats to see how that works.  More importantly, when you absorb another you lose the benefits of the previous absorbing.  At 8 HD, you can retain two benefits at once before needing to overwrite another.  At 16 HD, you can retain three benefits at once.
*Candy Beam (Sp): 1/day (+1 every 5 HD).  Polymorph objects into candy.  At 6 HD, can target creatures as well.  Act as Baleful Polymorph, can make Fort saves as a full round action to try and revert once per minute.  As for Gogeta (or was it Vegeto?), clearly he's a psion, he didn't need somatic and verbal components to be able to fly around and do stuff.
*Immunities: Critical hits, sneak attacks.  Because rubbery body.
*Rubbery Body: Take half damage from falling and bludgeoning.
*Swallow Whole (Ex): Majins can swallow creatures up to their size.  Creatures are held in an extradimensional stomach, and thus it can consume any number of creatures.  Creatures can escape by dealing at least 10% of their total hp to the stomach.  Blah blah muscle action closes boilerplate.  AC of stomach is 10 + 1/2 natural armor.
*Regeneration: Regen equals to Con mod, or level, whichever is lower.  Bypassed by one alignment damage of choice (choose on creation).  If dropped below 0 hp, the healing becomes per minute rather than per round.  You can take a feat to make it per round any time/increase the amount of regen.  Majin Buu clearly took several of these feats/had a shitload of Con.
*Languages: Common
*Fav Class: Any
LA: +2
ECL: 3.

Will this work?  I didn't aim for LA 0 cause that's hard, but you should be able to pull it off at LA 2.

Also, weird, your image suddenly flipped from a guy to a goth chick.

Sounds good to me.
Btw, my picture is Vessy Misatra, an OC of mine and in some of my campaigns she's the goddess of Death and Undeath.  She's also the image I try to go for whenever I have the option to play as a female character in a video game.
