Psychoactive Skin on creatures bigger than Medium-sized?
« on: September 02, 2016, 06:48:08 PM »
Anyone found a method for doing so? My attempts at finding a way have failed.

Yes.
"Yes but" ... is probably more the right answer.
You've found a minor handwaving spot in the rules.

 :??? maybe it's no change ...
When an article of magic clothing or jewelry is discovered, most of the time size shouldn’t be an issue. Many magic garments are made to be easily adjustable, or they adjust themselves magically to the wearer. Size should not keep characters of various kinds from using magic items.

 :??? maybe it's x2 ...

:??? maybe it's who knows wtf random idk nobody knows

Skin Of Proteus is not priced at 4*7*2000 as you perhaps could assume it would cost.
Instead it's 50% more but maybe without an ML (=HD) cap.
Most of the descriptive text is fluff, for a basic 4th level at-will use item.

So you kinda get to make something up, within a range of assumed normalcy and r.a.i.

Yeah, it is generally assumed that magic items (other than weapons and armor) all resize to fit the wearer/user.

Most magic items resize, but psychoactive skins specifically say medium or smaller
Quote
Once a psychoactive skin is donned, the
ball unfolds, extends, and surrounds a
Medium or smaller wearer's entire body
in a variegated second skin, granting the
wearer access to a particular array of abili
ties

I personally would probably houserule them to work with larger creatures, maybe for a nominal add'l cost, but that's up to the DM.

i would borrow from effects which define how many medium creatures it takes to make up a larger one (such as rope trick), and then have to use that many skins to cover the larger creature.

maybe make a special slightly more expensive version of the skin that can link up with others to cover larger than medium individuals, if handing out the option for free is not desirable.

1) Get a symbiote that's medium or smaller
2) Put the suit on the symbiote
3) ????????
4) Profit!

Hat Of Disguise , is the level 1 version.

PF has a Robe Of Blending , as the Alter Self level 2 version.

There's nothing locking you in , to an ONLY psychoactive skin item
version of Polymorph / Metamorph.  Could be a belt or necklace or
slightly expensive suite of armor or X or Y or Z etc.
