no prereq's for new campaign
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:38:12 PM »
so my new group has just started a new campaign, and the DM said something weird.

"all prerequisites for prestige classes are gone, and the character must be evil"

first thought is great its going to be an "us take over the world" thing, and he confirmed that we will be trying to take over the country. but its trying to take over the country from a group of characters that are eviler (if thats possible) and greatly OP (by his own admission) im thinking they have unlimited fundage so they can get all the fun and exciting enchants/gear that weve always dreamed of.

probably we will be facing a full party style group, dont know if we will be facing them at once or over a period of time or even in the same dungeon.

we already have a DMM persist cleric in the making, but im looking for any and all ideas for characters that are crazy and silly.

and remember, no prereqs so this should be interesting.

lvl 6 start off and a 40pt buyin, all core and forgotten realms books allowed.

were lookin for the standard party package here:

Healer/Buffer
Wizard
Ranged or fast moving fighter (mounted fighter or such)
Close quarters fighter
Tank

Im really not thinking linear for this, but more of a lets get full casting in a front line fighter type of situation. or from 1/2mile away be able to detect exact numbers of enemies, and rain down hell. etc

any ideas? or should this even be done?

Make sure to have an Ur-Priest and a Sublime Chord (and maybe a Nar Demonbinder or a Chameleon if you want to spice it up a bit). Because who doesn't love 6th-7th level spells at level 6? Of course, you only need 1-2 levels in those classes, the rest can be all the usual fun PrCs.

For your fast moving fighter, how about a Trapsmith 1/Swiftblade 5?

Edit: What are the books allowed? You mentioned core and FR, but is that an exclusive list or just part of it? I'm gonna be working assuming that anything's on the table, partly because I just don't know what's in FR. Just ignore ideas that aren't valid.

Other options for stuff:
Divine Crusader 1/Contemplative 1/Church Inquisitor 1/Anything else full divine casting that gives domains
If you must have a ToB character, Warblade or Crusader 1/Master of Nine 5 should be fun
Nar Demonbinder 1/Incantatrix 5

oh ya, forgot to ask, could you guys post relevant books for the ideas you suggest  :D i dont have an indepth knowlege of what classes do or where to look for them

ill have to look those two up, dont know anything about them

all 3.5 books are allowed, but im pretty sure we can get almost any D&D book in play. id prefer to stay more recent than old, aka 3 or 3.5 vs going back to 2 or 1.

Ur-Priest, Divine Crusader and a couple of the others are from Complete Divine and/or Complete Champion. I can never remember which ones are from where.
Trapsmith is from Dungeonscape.
Nar Demonbinder is from Unapproachable East (a FR book on the cusp of 3.0/3.5, I don't remember which side).
Chameleon is from Races of Destiny.
Sublime Chord is from Complete Arcane.
Incantatrix is from one of the FR books. Magic of Faerun, I think? I know it was in a 3.0 FR book, and then reprinted (in a more powerful form, to boot) in one of the 3.5 books.
Swiftblade is from a web enhancement.
ToB is Tome of Battle, an excellent splatbook for melee characters that use its own well-made subsystem.

All of the above are D&D 3.5 books published by Wizards of the Coast (except maybe Unapproachable East because I think that one's technically D&D 3.0).

Did I miss anything?

Apostle of peace 1 / beholder mage 1 / fochlucan lyrist 4 if you want dual casting.  Apostle of peace (Book of Exalted Deeds) gives 9 levels of divine spells in 9 levels and turn undead at 1st level.  Beholder mage (Lords of Madness, p42) gives 9 levels of arcane spells in 9 levels.  Fochlucan lyrist (Complete Adventurer) is basically mystic theurge with 6+int skills and full attack bonus.

Fiend of possession (Fiend Folio) could be interesting, but I'll let someone who's actually familiar with that class discus it.

I just looked up dragon ascendant (Draconomicon), but it's not as cool as you'd expect for a prestige class that turns you into a quasi-deity.

My god, no prereqs at all???  Are you required to have a base class?

Fiend of Possession 6/Legacy Champion 10 = WIN
Beholder Mage 1/Ur-Priest 1/Fochluchan Lyrist
Bard 1/Sublime Chord 2/Swiftblade 10
Wizard 1/Incantatrix 10/Dweomerkeeper 9
Illithid Savant 10

EDIT:

Fiend of Possession is in Fiend Folio, Legacy Champion is in Weapons of Legacy, Beholder Mage is Lords of Madness, Dweomerkeeper is in the Complete Divine web enhancement, Illithid Savant is in Savage Species.

EDIT2: Oh yeah!  3.0 is in?  How about Shifter 10/Warshaper 5?

I was about to suggest some Epic PrCs, except that they all kinda suck. The only one worth anything might be the High Proselytizer for the ability to make enemies do whatever the heck you want with a decently good DC at low levels (bonus points if you're the same alignment and/or worship the same deity so they don't even get a save, since the game looks low enough level for that clause to matter).

Edit:

Doy! How could I possibly miss Nar Demonbinder into Malconvoker?

Who needs slayer? It's a game starting at level 6, so a straight Ardent 1/Thrallherd 5 works wonders. Your Leadership score is 11+Cha, and you're at the level where hordes of level 1 and 2 characters are still viable threats.

Dragon Ascendant (Draconomicon)?  Become Divine Rank 0 by level 12.

Alternatively, Beholder Mage or other PrC's that are usually barred to PC's due to racial requirements.

Ardent 1/Thrallherd 9/Slayer 10 works just as well; I personally prefer Slayer's capstone to Thrallherd's.

Ardent 1/Psychic Assassin 5, maybe? You get one of those special abilities. I forget if there's anything useful there. Adding 2 Int damage on your Sneak Attacks might be useful if you had many attacks, but you won't at that level. So probably not worth it.

Honorable mention to Magelord, if only because it has such annoying prerequisites normally.

You know, there are a couple Epic PrCs in PGtF.  Netherese Arcanist gives you Epic Spellcasting as a bonus feat at level 1, and Spellfire Heirophant gives you epic bonus feats and a bunch of spellfire stuff.

Epic Spellcasting is no good, since you need at least 10 ranks to actually have a spell slot for it. Although, wasn't there a feat that gave you an extra rank somewhere (something to do with guilds, I think)? Then you could have 10 ranks at level 6. Mwahaha.

Favored + Primary Contact.  There's some debate over whether the extra rank carries past the level of its acquisition, since the text is silent on that matter.

For power, it would be very very hard to beat any of the classes with a fast spell progression (Illithid Savant being the only thing I can think of on the top of my head). How about Shadowcraft Mage, though?
