Flying Castles?
« on: June 10, 2012, 05:54:48 PM »
Where are the guidelines for designing flying castles?  The only place I can think of is the stronghold builders guide, but I remember seeing a message on these boards that had a lot more places to look -- but my searchfoo is getting me nowhere.  The message I remember was either about flying castles or flying ships.

Actually, my player already has a flying castle that sits on a cloud (taken over from some evil cloud giants).  What he wants to do is radically expand the land (cloud) area surrounding the castle proper.  Any way to do that without it being hideously expensive?

Spell turrets, DMG2 might help, not sure what spell to put in it though.

Thanks.  Alas, I don't have that book.

Shining South page 49 has the Stone Trap spell. It makes a flying block of stone that can support a decent amount of weight. It will fall from the sky and hit someone based on a specified trigger, but it does not state that the trigger has to be able to actually be triggered (i.e. you can set an impossible trigger condition).

Proctiv's Move Mountain - an epic spell in Player's Guide To Faerun, p137

loops off the top of a mountain, inverts it, and makes it float, giving you a 1 mile in diameter base to build things on.

The thread I was thinking of might have been on the old board, which would explain why my searchfoo didn't work.

Still, it doesn't seem to be the one.

DavidWL's Sam the Commoner build
uses the flying castle.  Idk the details.
Landlord feat and Stronghold (?) at level 15.
Item Familiar, modify the snot out of it.

Somebody's got to have a decent write up
on how exactly it works.

Interesting.  Sam the Commoner uses the landlord feat, the mercantile feat, and makes the castle his item familiar.  Cool stuff.
