Dvati race and ToB Initiator Classes
« on: July 06, 2012, 08:07:35 PM »
In Dragon Compendium, there's a race called the dvati. They're twins. They're pretty good as bards and rogues as they have bonuses to Perform and to flanking. That LA +1 isn't so great though. Even though they're twins, they share the same soul so if one dies, they both die. It's even easier for them to go down when they're sharing the same hit point pool. As well, if they're a spellcaster, they share spells. So that got me thinking. If they share spells, and a pearl of power would get them back their spell, after one activates it, what about initiator classes like warblade or swordsage. If it requires a standard action or full round action to get your stuff back, could you not technically have one twin do that, while the other one readies their next returned maneuver? That'd make for a heck of a combo.

Aah, Dvati... ridiculously OP as per usual.

Dvati Warblade with White raven tactics, have one twin attack to refresh manuvers and have the other spam white raven tactics which I think affects both of them?

Infinite action loop!  Woooo!
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Sadly I doubt it would work

Quote
When a dvati casts a spell, both members of the pair must focus and concentrate on it. Both twins must  simultaneously take the actions required to cast a spell, although only one must supply material components. One twin cannot cast a spell while the other attacks, for example. A lone dvati can cast spells if his twin takes no actionswhile he casts. Any other sort of action, including a free one, makes it impossible for the casting twin to focus and use his spell. If the dvati tries to use a spell anyway, his casting attempt is ruined and the spell is lost.

Pretty sure that same restriction would apply to maneuvers.

All I see is spellcasting actions, nothing to do with psionics, maneuvers, truespeaking, meldshaping, or any other type of actions.

Any SANE dm would enforce those restrictions, or more commonly just ban then entire race

The race is allowed. We had one in the current campaign already, but he built it as a rogue/fighter with barely average Con, and the lack of hit point got him killed pretty quickly.

Ah. Well, it seems that if you're a competent DM you'd unfortunately make them both "concentrate" on using the ability to get their powers back.

How would it work with binding?

Anything that requires an action, you just use one body (except spellcasting)

But could each twin have their own vestiges separately, so they could (if I remember the cap correctly) collectively bind 8?

Don't binders bind the vestiges to their souls? Dvati only have one soul. I'd say there standard cap applies and both are affected by the vestiges simultaneously as well as the usual limits on use (just because there's two bodies doesn't mean you get to use the abilities twice as often).

Just to throw out a confusing scenario: dragonborn dvati, how does that work.

Got an even better one. Half-dragon dvati. You only get to use your breath weapon 1/day. Do they each get one use, or does only one of them get to shoot it?

They probably merge together... it would be kinda horrifying.
