Unusual Gishes
« on: July 11, 2012, 09:57:43 PM »
Instead of your usual Sorcerer 4/Pally 2/Abjurant Champion 5/Eldritch Knight 9 or whatever, what is your most unusual gish?

I made one that used Shadowcraft Mage. Reading the Fleshwarper, I'm thinking of how to incorporate that into a build.

Sorcerer 4/Fighter 2/Abjurant Champion 5/Fleshwarper 4/Eldritch Knight 5 -- +16 BAB, 16th level casting, not bad.

I'd be after abusing Improved Familiar with the Flesherwarper's Aberrant Familiar and grabbing Size Increase and maybe the tenatcles, wings, scales? Iunno. As for the Elder Secret: Secret of the Choker +4 racial bonus to initiative and a +1 to Reflex saves. This is of course using a small -- but perhaps common? -- house rule that familiars advance with your caster level, not just your sorcerer/wizard level. Not RAW, but whatever. Burn another feat on Obtain Familiar then.

Bard 6/Barbarian 1/Battledancer 1/Dragon Slayer 1/Fighter 1/Sublime Chord 1/Abjurant Champion 5/Incantantrix 4

BAB 16, 9th level spells and Incantantrix on the way.

Hexblade 2/Binder 4/KotSS 4/Suel Arcanamach 4/Abj Champ 5/Spellsword 1: BAB +18, Fort +12, Ref +7, Will +15. Gets 10th level SA casting (CL 18 from Abj Champion), and 8th level Binding (2x 4th level vestiges, or 2x 5th with the Improved Binding feat - which you can "buy" with your Binder 4th level bonus feat).

PhaedrusXY's blackguard Nar Demonbinder:

Sharn 4/+5/Mystic Theurge 5/Legacy Champion 6
- Really can easily be a Gish.

Steel Dragon 4 /Warblade 1 /Abjurant Champion 5 /Swiftblade 10 (also could do with mercury dragon) - can end with Jade Phoenix Mage instead

Best

Wizard 20
Polymorph, Shapechange, most of the buffs you care about, True Strike/Wraithstrike, and so on. Plus, Uncanny Forethought lets you make the Sorcadin cry.

Duskblade 6/Ur-Priest 2/Mystic Theurge 8/Contemplative 1/Abjurant Champion 3

I haven't checked if the skills actually work out, but you can probably make it work out if you're willing to blow feats on any number of them that increase class skills. Also, you can abuse the awfully worded Versatile Spellcaster to turn your bajillion Duskblade slots to make up for Ur-Priests complete lack of spells/day. Unfortunately, it doesn't reach the magic 16 BAB, sadly, but Divine Power make upt for it.. It does use a gish in a can, admittedly, but it goes in a different way from expected. Contemplative is there to get Shapechange.

You could go Duskblade 5/Ur-Priest 2/MT 8/Contemplative 1/Dweomerkeeper 4, if you want SU spells.

Or, you could go Binder 1/Archivist 4/Anima Mage 9(Anima Mage suggests making it available to divine casters)/Archivst advancement 6

Honestly, any way to get 9s is the best Gish.

As Cyclone Joker pointed out, Divine Anima Mages can be excellent gishes. I played one of those at levels 15-17 as the main damage dealer of the party and it was heaps of fun. It was a particularly high powered campaign, so I had crafted Contingent Giant Size on myself (Hero domain for the win) along with some other nasty buffs. Naturally I used Astaroth for crafting. Then one of the vestiges (Dantalion?) gives you a neat +8 to all Knowledge checks, which was helpful.

I think the character was Binder 1/Cloistered Cleric 1/Anima Mage 10/Contemplative 1/Cloistered Cleric X.

Monk 20

You're totally a supernatural being that ignores gravity and punches harder than needles can stab at that level.
With wands it can even cast spells!

I wouldn't call that unusual though, since it's Core! Psychic Warrior 20, now there's an unusual Gish. It has freaky psionic abilities (that everyone knows are OP) on top of amazing Fighter feats. If it wasn't balanced by the Medium BAB I would call it horribly broken, but we all know how powerful a class feature full BAB is, so it's not that powerful even with the OP Psionics.
Hmm.

Dear god, what if it got a familiar, too?!

I once contemplated a Monk 1/Wizard 1/Cleric 2/Mystic Theurge 10+ build.  I decided instead to go with a prestige paladin/radiant servent of pelor/knight of the raven cleric.

I personally like Warblade 7/Divine Crusader 1/Sovereign Speaker 9/Contemplative 1/X 1 (where X is any other domain-granting prc, depending on what domains you already have).  Spontaneous casting from 12 domains.

That's actually pretty good.  I might try and work prestige paladin in there, too, as it opens up a lot of spells.  It'd be nice if it could find some more Warblade, though, as the smashy part of the character is getting a bit lost.

Well, you don't need so many domains.  You have limited spell slots, after all.  So if you cut back on Sovereign Speaker, you have at least one more level's worth of Warblade to throw in there.

And honestly it should probably be a combo of Warblade and Crusader.
