Steubenville is long known in ohio for political and police corruption.  They are MAJOR pissed that this wasn't squashed and someone outed them

Sounds like this city is in need of more masked vigilantism.

The whole wiretapping thing kinda fits here, instead of the Politics thread.

Your phone calls = warrant
Foreign Nationals calling outside of US = monitor
These have been assumed for a long time.

"New"
Monitor the point to point of a phone call without warrant
= ahh smarty pants interpreting law, for extra goodies.
Technology allows all phone calls / emails / facebook-ings
to be monitored = yelling and screaming.  But they still need a warrant to use it.

Hello Patriot Act, why?

Yeah, that dumb patriot act. One of awful laws that politicians used fear to get it passed.

One of those laws they had in a drawer somewhere, just waiting for the right amount of public outcry to make it happen.

Two guys in New York arrested for building a radioactive anti-Muslim death ray.

They tried to seek funding from Jewish synagogues and the KKK for their project.

Wouldn't have worked, though, due to how radiation operates.

Well, to be fair they were trying to build a microwave emitter as far as I know, and it was supposedly a directed beam, not an expanding sphere.  Microwaves: EM radiation, not radioactive decay radiation.  The beam wouldn't decay in strength as a result of expanding to uselessness, but rather as a result of interference.  Standing behind a wall, for instance, would shield you because microwaves are not very good penetrators.  I also seem to see about 5 different methods of emitting harmful rays that the news are claiming they used, so they could actually have been wanting to use radioactive decay as the source.  Or x-rays, or microwaves, or something else.  In one article they even said "they could not obtain a radiation source" and "using x-rays" in the same article.....you don't need a radiation source to make an x-ray emitter...

Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.
It's a god-eat-god world.

Procrastination is the thief of time; Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves; The vast concerns of an eternal scene.

Teenager arrested for making a joke online.

Yeah, the joke was in poor taste, but being arrested for it?  Dang we're falling far...

I've heard three separate versions of that story, and that one seems least credible; it says he was playing LoL (which is a team-based game with no inherent replay / chat storage), then later says a woman who saw the /post/ reported it (LoL doesn't have posts in game...). I believe the version where he said it on Facebook more, though the inconsistency is annoying (or amusing, depending).

Well, it's mostly the anti-immigrant factions, such as the Neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party (which has a lot of members in the police force).

The programs and camps are concentrated in cities where Golden Dawn holds sway, like Athens.

Human Rights Watch article.

Greek news site.

And they're not just going after immigrants.  They're rounding up prostitutes, homeless people, drug addicts, and transgender people.  All to "clean the streets of undesirables."

I made a thread about this on rpg.net, which has more discussion on the matter.

I wonder how much collateral damage is acceptable? I mean, do I stop at just the people involved, or their entire families? ._.

Never posted on RPG.net, though it's probably better for my sanity that I can't see the thread anyway. :|

Guilt by association is never a good idea.

Seriously, organized resistance of force is acceptable and justified once Neo-Nazis are putting people in camps.  Okay, it's not just the Neo-Nazis, but Golden Dawn is the most prominent advocate of these measures.

I'm sorry if I upset you by posting this.  But I hope that as awareness of this situation increases, more people will act against this.

Right, so them, all their families, all their friends, buried in landfill. Got it.
