He's collecting signatures now, and needs about 800k.  Then it needs to be approved by both the state and federal legislators.  If it does then the US senate will be 10 members stronger, and the house probably 2 or 3, depending on how the lines are drawn and how populations end up.

The guy clearly wants to turn Silicon Valley into a legal safe-haven for obnoxiously evil plans to conquer the Internet.

California definitely has issues, but splitting it up into little, tiny states isn't going to solve anything.  On some level we have to cooperate with our neighbors, and their neighbors, up until we manage to cooperate with everyone in the country, and this plan is basically this guy saying Silicon Valley wants the rest of the state to just fuck off.

I read months ago that he wants to do it because (shocker) he's republican, and the 6 state thing would be like yet another form of gerrymandering.  The way he had it rigged would turn California from a "purple" state that (given their current batshit insanery) national Republican candidates will never ever win over to a set of 3 blue states and 3 red states, a net huge win for team R.  Seriously, fuck that guy and fuck his petition.

Also, are there ANY venture capitalists who aren't super evil flaming douchebags?
