Multiclass Synergy
« on: November 04, 2012, 03:53:31 PM »
I think the thing that originally led me to this site and forum was my search for info about the Zen Archer Monk and discovering the wonderful handbook by StreamOfSky.  It's been quite enlightening for me to look through these handbooks having been away from the hobby for a while.  The archer is my go-to PC build and I love looking for new and interesting ones.  I can't wait to give the ZAM a shot.  ;)

I got a little more excited when I ran across the Empyreal Sorcerer and realized the lovely synergy of multiclassing these two archtypes.  There are lots of other options in the form of Traits, and Feats, and such that follow this WIS based path.  Now I'm even more excited to build this character (if I ever get a chance to do so).

I'm wondering what other synergistic builds you have come across and what works for you.  I'd like to see some other ideas for similar builds.

Passive Way Monk 7 / Factotum 3
Monk's bonus Feats set up for Knock-Down (or w/e it's called) so free Trip attempt with each attack. Monk 6 gives a +4 bonus if they are Flat-Footed, Monk 7 gives Super Concealment, Factotum rewards intelligent tactical play (Int to Trip).

Hellfire Warlock/Binder is one.  Hellfire Warlock gets its special ability by taking Con damage.  Binder 1 lets you fast heal that damage.

Monk 7 gives Super Concealment
Did you mean to add in Invisible Fist or something like that?

Dark Moon Monk (or something like that) gets total concealment in anything short of daylight. It's an ACF or sub level or something from the Champions of Valor web enhancement.

These look like intersting builds, but they are a little beyond my comprehension at present.  I'm a level 1 DM.  How about any other variations on base classes and archtypes?

One of the basic tricks, is to cut down the number
of good Stats a PC needs.  Most of the top Casters
can be narrowed to their casting Stat, but with a
little Con early on for survival.

So say you have a Cleric and you snag a 1 or 2
level dip into a non-core class or PrC that has
+Wisdom to attack or damage or both.  Bonus!

Say you want a Monk and instead go Monk 1 or 2
and Druid 18+ ... you are quite the Monk then.

Non-casters have an odd quirk in multiclassing
where a small pile of classes are taken for just
2 levels each.  It looks funny on paper, but it works.

^This is because most casters have so much variety built in that a PrC isn't really required to flesh out a "caster" concept. Most martial characters on the other hand are generally very limited in what they can do by default, so you have to dip like crazy to get your desired concept.
