Is there a guide or handbook on Tripping?

I'm looking for different ways to boost my Trip Check. 
However, I'm not looking for ways to boost my check to resist a trip, only ways to boost it offensively.

Besides the obvious way of increasing your base strength/size, does anyone knows of any good feats, items, etc. to improve tripping?


So far I have:

Feats
Improved Trip (PHB): +4 unnamed bonus to trip.
Jotunbrud (RoF): +4 size bonus to trip.  (Treat character as if they were one size category larger)

Magic Items
Armbands of Might (MIC): +2 unnamed bonus to Strength-based checks.
Belt of the Champion (MIC): +5 competence bonus to Strength-based checks.  (This is the relic power of the item)
Brute Gauntlets (MIC): +2-4 morale bonus to Strength-based checks based upon number of charges used.
Third Eye Surge (MIC): +2-4 insight bonus to Strength-based checks based upon number of charges used.
Torc of the Titans(MIC): +5 morale bonus to Strength-based checks 3/day.
Sweeping enchant +1 (MIC): +2 competence bonus to Strength checks to trip.  (updated from the Arms & Equipment guide)

Misc
Mauling Gauntles (MoI): +2 morale bonus to Strength checks +2 per point of essentia invested.
Sphinx Claws (MoI): +1 competence bonus to Strength checks +1 per point of essentia invested.
Stonefoot Stance (ToB): +2 unnamed bonus to Strength checks against larger opponents.
Strength Domain affiliation (CC): +2 unnamed bonus to Strength checks.  (Requires affiliation rank of 2)
Sanctified One of Kord affiliation (CC): +2 unnamed bonus to Strength checks (Requires affiliation rank of 2)
Marshal minor aura - Art of War (Mini): +CHA bonus to trip.
Marshal minor aura - Motivate Strength (Mini): +CHA bonus to Strength checks.
Strongarm Capsule (CAd): +1 alchemical bonus to Strength checks.
Tentacled Hide armor (Und): +2 unnamed bonus to Strength checks to trip.
Factotum 3 - Brains over Brawn (DS): +INT bonus to Strength checks.

Any more?

Helm of Battle (MIC 111): +2 untyped, 3/day
Living Chain (MIC 53): probably should not stack with Sweeping
Confound the Big Folk (RotW 153): tactical feat usable by Small or smaller characters to trip Large or larger ones using Dex and no size bonuses

Depending on the application, you might like Curling Wave Strike, a feat from Stormwrack (p 92) that replaces the follow up attack from Improved Trip with a new trip attack against a different opponent.

The Wolf Berserker feat from Unapproachable East gives +4 and can be used as an alternate prerequisite for Improved Trip.

Stone of Good Luck (20,000 gp) gives +1 luck on all saves, ability checks, and skill checks.

The Elusive Target tactical feat, in addition to the power attack negating and attack redirecting abilities, also has Cause Over-reach.  Any enemies that attempt an AoO provoked by your movement that miss are subject to a trip attempt from you.  This attempt is just a free attack, NOT an AoO, and the tactic explicitly says you cannot be tripped if you fail.

The problem is when the DM stops having monsters try to AoO you....


You should also be looking at the entire Setting Sun discipline from Tome of Battle, which gets a ton of throwing techiques that use the trip mechanic.  The 9th level maneuver lets you double move and attempt a tripping throw every 10 ft you move, with a ridiculously fast scaling trip bonus based on how far you've moved so far, which also amps up the damage of the throws.

Also, some throwing prestige classes.  Namely, Master Thrower lets you make a free trip check using dex mod +4 on *every* thrown weapon attack.  The Bloodstorm Blade lets you treat thrown attacks as melee attacks for a round by spending a swift action, which as far as I'm concerned means you can now do thrown trip attempts if you are wielding a tripping weapon (BB gets a separate ability to ricochet back his weapon so he can full attack throw w/ the same melee weapon, so just chuck a guisarme or something).

Three levels of mighty contender of Kord (Dragon 382, p46) lets you use the granted power of the strength domain a number of times per day equal to your unmodified strength modifier and makes each use last 1d4+1 rounds.  The class stacks with cleric for purposes of the granted power of the strength domain, but only the even levels advance casting.  The domain focus alternative class feature (Dragon 347, p91) increases the enhancement bonus to strength from the strength domain to double your cleric level.  You give up your other domain and spontaneous casting of cure or inflict spells. 

The competition domain (Spell Compendium) gives a +1 bonus to all opposed checks.  Domain focus increases this to +2.  Admittedly, this is less impressive than the previous suggestion.

Strange.

I just finished the General Strategies section of the Weapon Special Ability Handbook. Trip entry is as follows:

Disarm/Trip
(Disarming, Grasping, Sweeping)
I’m including these three together because of the synergy. Disarming is just a bonus to disarm. Sweeping is a bonus to trip, and grasping is a bonus to both. Personally, I don’t see  disarming or tripping working very well in the games I run, but if you like that sort of thing, here you go.


Since you seem to actually like tripping, if you can expand on the trip section, I'll include whatever you post. Otherwise, there are only two weapon special abiilites that apply.

Speaking of Setting Sun, Step of the Wind gives a +4 bonus if your target is in difficult terrain, as a level 1 stance, which is useful in niche lockdown builds that produce difficult terrain via Knight levels instead of forcing AoOs via Thicket of Blades.

Note - The subject came up with me sometime long ago, can't recall where.

But it led to the idea that Post 2 of Class Boosters should have a Trip/Bull Rush/Overrun section. The poster that brought it up even made a huge contribution to the only section anyone has ever posted anything on, Bull Rush.

That being said. I'd be happy to include a Trip bonus list CB style in my post to get such a thing out there. Technically, I already agree to anyway so...  :plotting

Also.
Battle Jump (UE): size increase while charging (+4).
Passive Way Monk 6 (UA): +4 if you took Skill Focus(bluff) and they are flat-footed.
Factotum 3 (DS): Int to Str/Dex related Ability Checks, includes Trip.
Grasping (A&E): +2 enhancement, +2 Circumstance to Trip.

Any of the things I added to Bull Rush that are Strength boosts would work for normal Tripping too.  If I remember to look for dexterity-related stuff then I'll add to that as well.

Also, don't forget the Knock-down feat for trippers.

anything that increases size -- that's a +4 per size category.
- Belt of Growth/Enlarge Person -- with the +2 to strength, that's a net +5
- Expansion -- my favorite Psychic Warrior ability.  Gives you a baseline +5, and a +10 if you expend another 6pp.

It doesn't count as Improved Trip, it lets you take Improved Trip without meeting the other prereqs. That's even better! What a great find! I can't believe I'd never seen this before...

One hour ago I continued my tripping handbook. I think I'd better public it. If you don't mind let's put this discussion elsewhere then.

/edit: I opened it here, and this is the discussion thread.

I started gathering about three month ago but didn't found the time to finish it. It's not finished yet, so I might need your help to improve it.

This is great.  I never expected such a response.  Thanks guys. 
Besides size increases, there are still many more other ways to boost trip than I had realized.


I agree with Tr011 on taking this to his Handbook Discussion... after all, I was looking for a Tripping Handbook in the first place!  :D
