Hello,

I've been wondering recently, if there is any way to emulate the ability of one of the BBEG's from the Naruto manga - Uchiha Obito/Tobi ?

The ability is basically transporting parts of your body, or your entire body, to another dimension, in order to avoid being affected by things on the "material plane".

I was trying to find a class ability, psionic power or spell that did similiar, but, alas, found nothing seriously comparable  :(

The best I came up so far is Ethereal Jaunt, but one would still be affected by force effects... :-\

If someone has any thoughts on the matter, plaese do help me  :)

I'd be inclined to make it a refluffed miss chance, with the percentage chance reflecting whether you phased out quickly enough to dodge the attack.

A sound idea, but Obito was always quick enough (they could only harm him while being "ethereal" as well), and that's where the problem lies...  :)

So Ethereal + Force Ward or what ever that spell is called... The one that makes you immune to force damage.

That's a very cool combo, but I cannot seem to find any spell that makes you immune to force damage/effects  :(

Force Dragons are utterly immune to Force Effects, very high LA and paltry HD pre-epic through.

You'll probably be better off with Greater Blink and just taking the hit from Force effects. D&D is a multi-planar game and PCs end up freely moving about them. Naruto has one world with extraplanar spaces and no one can simply teleport to heaven and back.

You could be incorporeal and have the ghostly grasp feat (Libris Mortis) so you can interact with corporeal objects at will.  Unfortunately, you could still be affected by spells and magic weapons.  Still, it does a fair job of allowing you to be “there” or “not there,” as it suits you.

A character that becomes incorporeal via some extraordinary or instantaneous means would be mostly invulnerable to attack if he could keep an antimagic field around himself.  Feats are, as a rule, extraordinary, so ghostly grasp would still allow you to affect things.  Just don't be undead.  Incorporeal undead wink out of existence in an antimagic field.  (Antipsionic field doesn't have that clause, but even if you use that, someone else could create an antimagic field to suppress you.)

I'm not at all familiar with the BBEG in question, but perhaps Abrupt Jaunt or Wings of Cover?  Just refluff them as needed.

Earlier post I did on this subject years ago on the 339 boards

Quick Summary

Nightmares get Etherealness and Astral Projection as SU abilities at will.  Nightmares as long as they are touching their "allies" can transport themselves as well as their allies when they use the Etherealness ability.

If I remember correctly, when you use Polymorph Any Object on someone they retain their SU abilities.  You effectively polymorph any object a nightmare to become your half zetsu body.

That combine with readied actions and you can easily simulate Tobi.  Use the plane shift spell/power to attack

---------

A Vestigial Twin(5 LA, DMG2) simulates Zetsu nicely as well

---------

You can also do the same effect with psionics (but you blow through pp), using synchronicity to convert other actions into standard actions, (schism + synchronicity means 2 standard actions a round, use magic items to convert your swift action into a third synchronicity action.)

---------

1 Level of Ghost Savage Progression, combine with Ghostly Grasp, Ring of Manifestation (you keep ring on to appear human, take it off in battle), and the Human Heritage feat can also simulate tobi but he is still targetable by anything that can hit a ghost.

You can simulate this by actually not being there.  Teleport away, teleport back. :)
