Min/Max 3.x / Re: Interesting stuff in Pathfinder

Something of note for aspiring Pathfinder necromancers is the frostfallen template. It is an undead creatable with a minimal increase in cost to animate dead that retains all offensive and defensive abilities. The only thing it loses are skills, int score, feats, and special qualities unrelated to attacks. It also gets a charisma boost of 6 instead of having its charisma adjusted to a flat number.

So it would have been significantly better then if Paizo had just done the actually logical thing; given inquisitors the same spell alignment restriction as clerics and marked all the torture themed spells as [evil]?

You know, when Inquisitor came out, I said I liked that there was a rogue/cleric type hybrid class mechanically, but I hated it due to the name and the fact that it wasn't an evil-only class and it was in fact glorifying some of the most repugnant crimes against humanity committed in history.  And everyone told me I was crazy, I was reading too much into it, it was just a name w/ no connection to the actual Inquisition....
And then Paizo keeps putting out spells and such for the class that are blatant call backs to torturing people, one even involves hurting them for information.

I know this is off-topic, but it really genuinely pisses me off.
Wow why does that spell not have an [evil] tag attached to it but deathwatch does?

Excepting that thing it is kinda wierd that inquisitor is where you put you foot down for offensiveness. Do you have a similar problem with crusader, knight, and samurai? Given that the Crusades and the Inquisition were pretty much the same crime of Europe and that feudalism as a system is probably the most damaging thing to happen to humans.

Could I also get a PM, as a consolidated PDF is something I've been looking for.

hmm ... I've seen children's toys that are Printed things
on thick sturdy cardboard.  It's like a 3D toy made with
easy/cheap 2D printing.  While I would applaud that
normally (especially for dealing with the kiddies)
I think the Miniatures crowd would be distressed if
they thought PF was ditching real sculpted figures
for printed cost cutting.

Not sure why/if I care what the Miniatures crowd thinks.
I know it's been part of the d&d scene from the beginning.
3D Printing ought to make figures cheap enough,
instead of being out-cheaped by a 2D adaptation.

 :??? well changes happen regardless.

The pawns sets are in addition to not in place of miniatures sets. Pawns for an adventure path traditionally come out shortly before or after the path wraps and contain every enemy encountered. The minis for an adventure path can come who the hell knows when and contain 55 of the enemies most commonly or iconically encountered. The issue is that only one set of minis can be made every 4 or 6 months whereas the pawns basically come out anytime a books with lots of enemies is released due to how easy they are to make.

Gygaxian: It might be my own bias, but I've only seen this used as a negative, referring to old-school, antagonistic DMing. People who defend this style of gaming won't like the insult, and may take even greater offense in that Gygax's name is being used as a pejorative.

To be honest I know a lot of people use this as an insult but among my group it has never been anything but a descriptor. Specifically it's that old school wackiness and whimsy that made OD&D wonderful. We may not want to play a Gygaxian game every meeting but it's good for a break from more serious stuff either as a series of one shots or a full on old school silliness campaign.

Time for me to contribute with the most irritating on from the Paizo boards

Schrödinger's Wizard:  used as a dismissive term anytime actual caster imbalance is brought up. Used to claim that caster supremacy doesn't exist because as soon as a wizard is actually stated they are no longer supreme.

I know not everyone here goes there an thus not everyone would know this, but this particular thread is really obviously mocking a thread on giantitp wherein the OP actually was claiming that spellcasters weren't dominant.

I thought of Ranger for Amazon too, but then I looked at it and thought "Yeah, it has the archery, but how many rangers go with spears and javelins? It doesn't really fit the name most associate with it."

Maybe Hoplite or Immortal.

I'm afraid I must disagree with the OP to an extent. I mean no offense in this, so please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm smelling a bit of DM laziness.
So if a new player wants to play a warforged in a high fantasy, yet historically influenced Viking game, I'm lazy for not allowing that?   :rolleyes

It is if you just say "no". If you talk to the player and as why they want to play a warforged and still come to the conclusion that it is still a bad idea probably not. Say they want to explore the ideas of what it means to be the creation of another being and striving to be an independent entity. You could have them be a steel man made by the mystical dwarven smiths you gifted him to the other PC's chief. You could also come to the conclusion that metal man exploring what humanity is doesn't fit in a hoorah let's conquer Britain campaign and say no. If the player just says "because robots are cool" then shutting him do is not lazy and he should work on a more involved character.

Another possibility to give an upper cap to the growth is to make it so hitdice gained through eating require an "upkeep" of sorts. Say for every hit die you gain through the eating you have to eat one humanoid per week or day or you lose it.
Strangely enough I also had this built into my dragons/wendigo... Have you been reading my stuff? :P (It was in "The 5th World" supplement for Realmwalkers, by MindsEye publishing).

I have not read any such stuff from you.

The problem is that worshiping Mystra implies a belief system that is very undorfy to how most people envision dwarves.

Initiate of Mystra (aka the Cheater of Mystra) is FR-based...

True but it requires you to worship Mystra.

This actually looks really good for stating up Nicol Bolas. The awesome Legends version of his fluff not the brutalized new version.

I'm having difficulty getting ahold of D&D Next stuff. Could someone explain why it looks so unappealing.

I really like Infinite Prowess as it helps them out as melee battlefield controllers a lot.

Perhaps the hit dice they get through feeding are just seperate "bonus" hit die that are added onto of whatever their age category gives them and does not advance their age category.
