While Godzilla does have surprisingly low screen time it actually ends up working with only mild frustration. Basically you get this....
Buildup, buildup, buildup, oh it's waking up, awesome, human plot, monsters are going at it and oh its only a tease, human plot, teased again, human plot, SHIT GETS REAL.
Though it was annoying that they kept teasing, I know why they did it for pacing and structure. And in spite of my criticism, my heart did flutter when Godzilla let off his first roar. Unlike other monster movies whose star doesn't show up often, Godzilla doesn't wait til the end of the movie to appear. You do see him fairly early on (after they introduce the enemy though). It's just you don't see him get his awesome on until later.
But those fatalities man...
Without speaking a single word you could see Godzilla going "Get the fuck off my planet bitch!" Cities gonna get wrecked!
(Still a lower bodycount that Superman though.
)
