Meh, Hellsing had 95 chapters. CCS had 8 volumes. MKR had 3 volumes.  The Evangelion manga filled 14 volumes.

Not every manga drags around for hundreds of chapters.

Rurouni Kenshin had a 28-volume run and it's still not exactly gigantic. Love Hina had 14, I think. Negima had 37.

Average run for a successful manga in the 90's was something like 4, maybe 5 years if it didn't take a nosedive. At roughly 25 chapters a year (one every two weeks, 51 weeks in a year) we come to a total of 100-125 chapters, that's roughly 15 volumes.

Also, MKR had six volumes, not three.

But you're right, some stories are just made to run shorter.

And if they are, they should be. Not artificially dragged along because capitalism.

So, I've started watching Martian Sucessor Nadesiko for the first time, and then I suddenly had a revelation between episode 5-6...
Yurika is PC 98 Reimu!

The similarities are all there:
-Bullet hell battles against hordes of flying enemies that are won with beauty and strength of will!
-Almost exlusively female cast. Sure, the main protagonist claims to be a male, but considering (s)he looks a bit like a bishonen and also seems immune to the advances of all the other female protagonists, it's quite possible (s)he's just a tomboy in disguise.
-Mysterious force fields that allow you to graze enemy shots like there's no tommorrow.
-Fantasy Heaven Gravity cannon to just win the day.

Ok, their personalities are quite different, but I'll blame that to the fact that space captain Reimu doesn't drink alcohol  nearly as much as shrine maiden Reimu, so she's probably sober while on-screen for a change.

Kind of curious, anyone here watch Hitsugi no Chaika?  The series is pretty good, if the animation is a little quality.  Pretty excited for the second season, since Light Novel spoilers are sparse at best, so I've managed to not spoil it for myself.

I have it on hold. It just didn't hold my attention enough. Seemed...generic.

So I sat down today and figured I'd try to figure out roughly who [movies/gt included] Goku could punch to death.

(click to show/hide)

So God Ki SSj4 Goku can Dragon Fist someone to death whom defensive abilities are high enough to survive a blast capable of destroying 144,000,000 solar systems. Of course this is a focused "punch a hole through someone" attack so it's not a galaxy nuke so there is limitations on size and it's possible for high regenerators to survive if there is no follow up.

So basically everyone but Wolverine and his copycats.

Chouginga Gurren Lagann says hi.

Also, Dark Schneider.

Also Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (and its components), and every drill those two use.

Also probably Lordgenome. On his own.

Well, Lord Genome is highly vulnerable to big holes in his chest, and Goku's kinda a specialist on that deparment ever since he was a kid. :p

On other news, I now remember that I should finish reading Bastard!

But 144,000 solar systems < Big Bang. Thus, it clearly fails to make a hole! :p

Alternatively, the attack gets eaten and turned into a drill, as all things should be.

I used Chouginga specifically because it already uses galaxies (not solar systems. GALAXIES.) as shuriken. Anything else is just overkill.

Turned into a drill or not, Lord Genome still died when he got killed, and his opponent was still standing. Glorious self-sacrifice to stop the enemy attack is still self-sacrifice.

People die when they are killed. True, but I still think that's the less likely outcome. 144,000 solar systems is nothing, really. :D

No kidding, Genome is about as strong as a power ranger and he has the mechs to prove it  :P

Dark Schneider is out, Dragon Fist detonates the body on full usage (see hirudegarn & syn shenron), only miniscule bits remain.

Chouginga Gurren Lagann?
If you drop that u for "Choginga Gurren Lagann" then you're talking about a ship half the size of earth that is only on a planetary scale of power but has a time/space warp ability to pretend it's better. Perhaps you mean Tengen Toppa Gurren who is 10 million light years tall and chucked galaxies against Granzeboma. Just saying, I haven't even watched the show and know that (with a little name help). I already mentioned a size limit, through punching a hole through the pilot would work and Goku can teleport him self into the pilot's seat for the perfect critical hit.

He's going to need some luck finding the pilot's seat. Since this means looking for something with no space for another person, about the size of a smart car, inside a mecha the size of a building, inside one the size of a moon, inside one that throws galaxies around, inside one more or less the size of the observable universe.

STTGL is a bit big (the thing by its foot is how big TTGL is. :lmao)

It's been two years since I last saw it, so I'll give that my memory is weak on the names.

However, the u deserves to be there, given that's how you freaking spell the reading out.  :P

Dark Schneider would definitely still be in, especially
